As title, really...

There's a clinic at The College in August when we're off work & I was thinking about going as it's concentrating on turns/approach.

I had a totally awful, disastrous lesson at MKEC once so I'm cautious about trying new trainers.

All info gratefully received!

I've heard mixed reviews, tbh. I think Laura (TalaveraII) has lessons with him and likes him.. but you'll have to ask her! I thought about having lessons with him but as a general rule don't get on with men - probably because i dont like being told what to do by a bloke!

I went to Arena UK for one of their training shows with him on the ground, can't say he inspired me that much, told me what I needed to do (which I already knew) but not how to do it (which I didn't know)!!!! However on a one-one clinic he may be more focused, all I can say is if its not too expensive give it a go, different trainers suit different people

Ive been to a couple of his Tuesday training sessions and also had a private lesson with him a few years ago before he moved away from Arena UK. All i can say is that it was possibly the best jumping lesson i've ever had bar none. My horse was fairly inexperienced and had a tendancy to back off anything out of the ordinary. Within minutes Matthew had weighed us both up as a partnership and worked on our weaknesses. By the end of the lesson, we were both attacking our fences and thoroughly enjoying ourselves!

We were completely worn out after it though as he did work us both hard LOL! Couldn't recommend him highly enough!

Go for it!!

H'mm... mixed reviews...

It's a clinic with 5 people in a lesson, rather than private. I can't actually remember the last time I did a group sj lesson.

The things that concern me are

1) Sarcasm - can't bear people being patronising or sarcastic when I AM trying.
2) Trainer appearing bored/indifferent/only in it for the money. As per a group xc lesson with an eventer (not at MKEC) where he was barely even bothering to watch people.
3) Being made to do some very bizarre things that simply don't work, & having to go back several stages with usual trainer to undo the damage.

[Plus the usual concerns like Adrian deciding to get wildly excited & upsetting everyone else's horses by having a good bronc & going 'eeeeeeeee'.]

I can honestly say i never found him to be any of those things. My horse was just an ordinary little irish horse with a careful jump but nothing outstanding and i am certainly no Ellen Whittaker. Lol!!

I went along with my friend for a shared hour long lesson and i explained to him, once i had warmed up where we were at (RC level) and what i was aiming to achieve from our lesson. He was fantastic, and was very complimentary about Alfie and thought we were more than capable of what we were aiming to achieve. He focussed on us both equally by doing a bit with one of us and then letting us have a breather while the other had a go. He seemed extremely switched on to little things i was doing which perhaps were having an adverse effect and told us how to correct those habits. We had the full hour and by the end of it both horses and riders felt tired but very happy that we had learnt such a lot. I took him to a show the next weekend and the difference in my horse was outstanding, he was really taking me into every fence. I would definitely have more lessons from him if i had the opportunity.

Hope this allays your concerns a bit Catembi.

Sounds as if it's worth a try - I know what you mean as I have had similar 'destructive' experiences (one of them funnily enough at MK too). But then also some absolutely brilliant lessons so I'd never get those ones if I was put off for life by the bad ones.
It's a great pity that I can't make that date or I would certainly have come and joined you then we could have tried him out together!
If you decide to go please let us know how it goes and I'll look out for any future dates with him at Keysoe.
