Matthew Wright gets 23-day suspension from BE

What do they mean by 'disgraceful conduct'? It must have been worse than disgraceful to result in such a harsh penalty

It said in the article 'Matthew was dealt a 23-day ban for infringing rules 3ai, 8b, 28b and 31. While some of the infringements deal with late/substitution entries and disgraceful conduct, the main breach (rule 8b), applied because Matthew ran an unregistered horse last year.' so if anyone knows what rules £ai, 28b and 31 I'd be interested. 23 days seems like quite a long time but on the other hand I know over here there can be a certain element of some people running big eventing production believing they have a god gien right to do as they please, enter as they please and when etc.

I feel for Matthew - he flagged it up, was told he could still compete and then gets penalised for following the BE advice he was given on the day - shocking!

if that really happened firstly is really disgusting and secondly he wud have serious grounds for appeal and i hpe he does!! 23

days seems a bit harsh, bet hes got loads of horses reg and owners reg and makes BE some money in the process!!!

Anyone know what the disgraceful conduct was for? Just a thought, but depending on the conduct l would not think a ban would be too harsh? l am sure no one wants to witness/receive disgraceful conduct??? IMO

Not really. I often post links to recent news stories in the Latest News board but I thought this one might be of more interest to this board's regulars.

That's my question too - or is running a horse just prior to registration after getting the stewards' permission considered to be 'disgraceful'? If so, how stupid - if not, what did he do - drop his trousers? The mind boggles.

I personally think he has no excuses - how easy is it to register over the Internet, get a day ticket or send the application back faxed. At the end of the day he is making a living and is a proffessional. I think BE should make an example of him as there are far too many pros pushing the rules to see what they can get away with. Chris King is another when running a horse in a PN when he was not eligible.
They are not difficult rules just basic commonsense ones.

how stupid, unless he did something awful that they have not printed<< someone on here must know the facts??????????????

Rules are not their to be broken. He broke the rules and really the punishment fits the crime. It will hit him harder than fine! Why hadn't he registered the horse? If he wasn't sure then why run? Even if the officials said it was ok. Its all just a bit silly.

either way though, that's dreadful. if he deserves a ban for anything, it should be spelled out fairly and honestly to make a proper example of him, not on a cooked-up charge like this. if he really was advised that it was fine by an official (and it was only h.c. for heaven's sake, it's not as if he was after points or prizes) then he should appeal and it should be thrown out. he's not my fave eventer but i think the BE is wrong in this.

I dont think this is the first time he has done it so maybe BE have just got fed up with him being a constant offender!

there is always a page in the BE magazine that shows those who have broken the rules and been fined etc....i.e., fined for smacking horse, competing un-registered horse etc I have seen his name on that page a number of times, and a few of them have been to do with competing unregistered horses.

you are right about CK and its not the first time he offnded either but funny how att gets a massive penalty and one of BE's more favoured sons gets away with it......
