Am in total shock. I decided to Google Matthews Equestrian Centre tonight and found photos of it completely run down, with fire damage and vandalism. Apparently it closed down around 1986/1987. Does anyone know what happened to all of the horses? What happened to the place? I assumed it was still a going concern.

Am always the last to hear anything !!

Do you mean the one in Chatham, kent?
My god that name brings back some memories!! Jumped there many a time and hubby used to shoe horses there before we moved to Scotland.
Used to keep one of our horses there.

Is it not industrial units now?
It closed something to do with the road not being able to cope with the big lorries or something if i remember correctly.
Had many a good time there, used to go over for the evening jumping they had every week and did one or two affiliated shows there.
Mally Spens jumped my horse in the pro-am comp they had there, cant remember who she was partnered with though.

There was a long post on here a while ago about that place.

I'd never heard of it, but someone posted photos.... it sounded very sad

Belonged to Mr Rocco, he got the hump when council wouldnt let him host big events there because of the road. Cant see problem myself as lots of building been going on there so lot of traffic anyway. They went to Capstone Park I believe in chatham, dont know if they are still there though

I'll have a search on here and see if I can find the thread.

Yes it was the 28 Days Later site that I saw the pics. What a sorry mess. And even sadder that it was named after his son who died, I had no idea.

I thought Capstone had closed a while ago? Isn't it just a country park now? I haven't been to Kent for about 19 years so I'm not very up-to-date with what's going on (as you can see!!).
