I've currently got my girl on msm, glucosamine, chondroitin supplement for her arthritis but was looking into green lipped mussels wondering if it's just another fad.
Does anyone have any experiences of using them?
Also i would probably buy Maxavita Maxaflex, do i need any other joint supplement or is it including the amounts of the ones that i already fed at a god enough ratio?

It's very good. I use it on twizzy and find it very good as she can move a little stiff in the cold and want to keep her as fit as
Possible. They did a give away for 50 free tubs on there FB page not long ago and they had a lot
of good feedback. It's worth a try without a doubt. It's also very platatable

I use it for my event horse who has arthritis in her hocks. It is fab! Interestingly my brother works in the animal pharmecutical (sp?) industry (he has a veterinary background), and having done research into the use of joint supplements. He says only green lipped mussle and rosehips have shown to have any effect as a joint supplement (the company he works for doesn't currently do equine joint supplements ;)). As far as I am aware there is no equine supplement on the market that uses rosehips (at the moment!).

I haven't used maxavita maxaflex but my collie has severe arthritis in her hips and it makes a huge difference to her. She's on green lipped muscle extract straight, not other joint supplements. She is also on metacam and tramadol but I noticed a huge difference when we changed from a specific dog joint supplement to the extract and when I ran out for a week she definately deteriorated so absolutly has an effect on arthritis

I use Rosehips from here to boost the immune system of my youngster - didn't realise the benefits to joints too:D

Litovet is an equine rosehip supplement, and its the same extract as used in the research.

Going back to glm, I use Maxaflex as well as the Litovet. I was considering changing my horse to the Nupafeed glm as its pelleted - hate seeing supplements on bucket wall. Decided against as it gives a high dose of selenium, and my horse is already getting that in Winergy Ventilate.

My two arthritics both get maxaflex and really helps them. Soothes their joints aswell so I find I'm not buting as much as I was. Both dogs also have their canine equivelant. The animals are all doing so well on it that I'm considering getting their human capsules!!

I moved my mare onto it about 6 weeks ago from cortaflex and have noticed a big difference, she is on rest at the moment following injury so stiffness was a big thing yet she is much looser on this. I was at the point of thinking none of them worked!.

On the green lipped muscles a friend on the yard swears by them especially in horses recovering from injury and with arthirits. They even did a test and took horse off it and saw a big difference so put them back on it and was great again.

It;s worth a try I do feel different horses react differently to feeds but it certainly seems to be working for my girl at the mo:D

I've not had any complaints since switching my horse from a straight Glucosamine supplement to Maxaflex - he's a competition horse. I also feed whole rosehips and linseed as treats, from naturalhorsesupplies.co.uk .
