I stumbled across a brilliant man called Richard Maxwell (some of you may have heard of him?) I was browsing and came acorss his website;
www.richard-maxwell.com - I ordered his DVD and book for maximise your horses potential and was thrilled to see the way he worked. I have recently attended one of his training sessions and MY GOD my horse has never gone so well - I was soooo excited. I highly recommend checking Max's website out.
 
i like richard maxwells forum a lot too,
i've also read an earlier book he co authored with lesley bayley i think...not 100% sure tho

i like his stuff and would love to find out about his later work, i believe he's moved away from monty roberts?

I tried Richard Maxwell last Jan in desperation to turn Charlie's rude behaviour around. I had had the book for christmas, had read it cover to cover and was very sceptical. I gave his methods a try following the instructions. Within 2 weeks I had regained the respect and trust lost between Charlie and myself. In the past I had also had loading probs. The next time I came to load Charlie, he walked straight into the trailer. I now still do groundwork now on a regular basis. It does and can make a bi difference to the relatiionship between you and your horse.
 
The bloke doesn't need anymore advertising, he's making too much money for what he does already. Yes he knows alot of clever stuff and he's a good horseman, so are many other professionals who haven't written books and played the fame game. There are alot of capable horse men and women across the country who are doing as good as or a better job with horses than he does for a fraction of what he gets away with charging.

secondly, Nikki that runs the office has moved house and she had been without email for a couple of weeks, good old BT, but she will be in touch when she is back after the christmas break.

and thirdly KVS, i wish we were making sooooooooooooo much money, i think we are being confused with some good american horseman, its easy to forget that we employ people and they have to be paid before we do, it would probably surprise a few people to learn that we don't own a huge fabulous place, I wish.............., it would be fab to walk out in the morning and have the horses looking at us........................but who knows maybe one day!!

OMG!!! No I was not advertising. And apology accepted. I have been reading these blogs for some time and have never felt the need to add to the opinions in the past which is why this was my 1st one! (and probably my last!) Also my work background encourages us to share good ideas and experiences so that they can be shared which is what I was trying to do. There are many other supportive messages on here as well and those of you who are negative ... how many times have you tried Richard Maxwell to improve your riding/horse or both??!! KVS (are you speaking from experience I suspect not!) - it may be prudent to remember that just because you are dressed from head to toe in expensive designer horsewear - it doesn't actually make your horse go better! Your money is being wasted so put it to better use with some training! Having been around horses for less than 5 years - I have tried to learn from all the experienced riders out there. I have come across many riders who consider themselves horse lovers but insist on beating the crap out of their horses if they don't "Do as they're told!" Well sod you lot because I wasn't happy teaching my horse in this way and thanks to Mr M I have found a brilliant way of training my horse and improving my riding without causing ANY pain. And lastly - quite frankly so what if the guy lives in a big house - wouldn't you if you had the knowledge, expertise and brain power to make a difference - GOOD ON HIM

Maybe it's a good thing this will be your last post then...just because someone disagrees with you doesn't give you the right to suggest KVS (or anyone else!) has to beat their horse to get it to go, or come out with this sort of crap:

Having had horses for less than 5 years, as you said yourself, it strikes me that maybe you have reached that "a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing", as it seems you have read a Richard Maxwell book and now think you can dictate to others how they should manage their horses.

It may be prudent for you, Hollisall, to realise there are many ways of achieving an end with horses and yours isn't the only way that might work. Get off your soapbox - or are you a teensy bit envious that maybe you don't have all the expensive gear?!

Hey, don't get all bothered! We all have different opinions on here! Sometimes we have to agree to disagree. Not that I do in this case!
I've been using the books and dvd and getting on great. There is still a large place in my training for my local instructor though. I think R Maxwell himself credits many people who have influenced him. I think you can learn something from a lot of different sources.

Thanks Jo I will be posting again and I also have a weekly lesson with a local instructor who is brilliant and my riding wouldn't be what it is today if it wasn't for him.

Chesnut Cob - I am the 1st to admit that I do not know everything (and I have no need to be envious of anyone - trust me) I was just responding to the (possible) envious comments of KVS - maybe the envy is right here?

I disagree though - a Little knowledge used in the right way is a wonderful thing. Thanks for your comments though - I love a good debate xx

Maybe because I agree with KVS, but I didn't read her comments as being envious at all. I genuinely do think that NH/Parelli/the whole lot of it is just a very clever marketing package for common sense.

I don't doubt that RM is an excellent horseman, but that's exactly what he is. He isn't the miracle worker that people portray him as, he's just a good horseman who uses common sense and packages it well. I would imagine there are several on here who are equally as good.

The only thing I'm envious of is that I wasn't quick enough to package "common sense" up as "Parelli" and sell it for a fortune to people too nervous to ride their horses!

Fair comment but I never said he was a miracle worker and I think that KVS comments were unfair as he/she cannot know this guy personally and those comments were very personal. I didn't want to start World War 3 - I just know that for someone (like me) who craves to learn more about how to understand and get the best from my horse found a very very good way of learning and wanted to share it. I understand that Nh systems are controversial but I disagree that it is packaged up to make a few quid. It's like saying that business is common sense - you still need to study it to learn it properly - like any method with anything. Perhaps we'll agree to disagree on this one

Don't want to get into the arguments on this thread. But just wanted to say that IMHO Richard Maxwell is a really good horseman, and a thoroughly decent bloke too. Would hate anyone to have read this thread and been put off looking at him, and other good trainers, as a result of this.

There are several threads about Richard Maxwell and other trainers Hollisall that you can add to if you want to? As this one will most probably get deleted as unfortunately it did come across as an out and out advert. Sorry, just saying how I see it.
 
I agree - I am new to this forum stuff and was trying to share a good experience. I wasn't intent on starting world war 3. I have been looking through the subjects and will certainly add to the ones I think are worthwhile. Thx
