What would you say is the maximum weight a 13.3 moderatelly fit, (hacked out 2/3 times a week) fairly chunky type of new forest could carry?

My Dad has recently mentioned that he would like to come out for a hack with me.

He weight 14 stone and used to ride as a boy so he wouldnt sit there like a sack of spuds.

Do you think this is too heavy??

If he "used to ride as a boy" and hasn't since he's gonna be very rusty.

At the breed show there is (well could be was,as it's a few years ago don't know about now) a class where they had to be ridden by someone who was a similar weight as they are hands and they were bred to be ridden by men across the forest.

But 14 stone is the upper weight for a forester, and your dad isn't going to ride "light". Maybe a short plod would be ok, but I wouldn't do anything more.

Yes they still have the weight carrying class the breed show.

my new forest pony could easily carry 14 stone! My partner who uis 14 1/2 stone once had a sit on my pony and there we were thinking he was too heavy and my pony tried to bugger off with him.lol! He also did some jumping with a 14stone lad on him no problem. I would say as long as your dad doesnt bang around on his back he will be fine!

Thank you.

This will please him! It would only be a quiet walk around the block but I just wanted to ask before hoisting Dad up and finding that C started to buckle in the middle!!
