i, wondering if anyone kept their horse here as I am looking at it as a potential yard to keep my first horse. any feedback greatly appreciated. many thanks (also kcs and vine house please)
I was on Maxey House briefly about 18 months ago, moved off to go on a friends yard, not becase there was anything wrong with it as such. I wasn't there over a summer, so not sure how it is all year round.
Vine House, I ruled that one out because the turnout is limited.... not the hours, the acreage.
KCS seems nice but they don't allow children on the yard and as I have 2, that was a no goer.
Has it got to be that side of Preston? Some nice yards Penwortham way.
Hi,
i have a livery yard at the other side of Kirkham so will let you know what i know.
I've never heard much about Maxy House - so thats a good sign as i've not heard bad stuff. I recall a talking to a nurse at Preston Hospital when my late nan was in there and she stabled there, she had been there years and seemed to like it - again - thats good!
I havent a clue what facilities they have.
KCS - have been there for feed a few times, seem nice people who have it. I once had a livery move from there to my yard but that was for personal reasons rather than because there was anything wrong with the place.
Vine house - never heard of it? whereabouts is it?
Key points IMO if this is your 1st horse is that you need a yard:
with a decent paffock for you to ride in,
to be surrounded by knowledgeable people who can help you if asked - not the type that will butt in unwanted!
i would say it also has to suit the horse - if they can only be on a certain bedding, need all year turnout etc.
Hope thats helped a bit. Depending on where you live, there are a few places in Kirkham that may suit you. My yard would prob be too far for you plus we are full up anyway.
Vine House is also Cottam way .... not far from Salwick Show Ground.
It has a very small indoor school and an outdoor. I'm doing a quick tot up in my head from when I looked round and it must have 20-25 stables. Problem is, there are 2 turnout fields that amount to maybe 8 acres, if that.
Hey you lot....thanks ever so much for the recommendations!!!!
Website for Hawthorn is now www.livetoevent.co.uk as I am changing the web page at the moment.
Hope all is well.....
Salwick RC Shows are now at Maxey House, & have been all summer, & both are run by Loretta Bell who is very experienced. Maxey House has a large outdoor arena with show & WH jumps, a small loose/lunge arena & a horse walker. No indoor arena sadly. Lots of stables & fields & a brew room. You should go for a look round & see if it will suit. I can give you Loretta's mobile number if you pm me.
