i was just thinking... with all these "why are my horses feet so bad" posts etc which are usually down to the feed they are being fed could we not make a sticky thread on how to feed your horse for good feet?

that way people could just look on there... i know it wouldnt stop everyone but its just an idea

i dont know if this has been suggested before and im sorry if its a silly idea but there seems to be no end to them posts :)

no offence to anyone who has posted one of those threads before as i have also done it :o

I did suggest that we had a barefoot sub-forum on here. there are so many posts, a lot of the info is constantly being asked for and is therefore being repeated, so it would be good to have the whole lot together as a kind of reference bible. Just mho.

I really want to ask about this and about going barefoot generally but too scared and don't want to bore people with yet another thread on the same subject. Been crawling through old posts but keep getting confused. So yes - I think its a good idea.

i just think that people are always asking the same questions as not everyone realises they have already been asked before so if we had a sticky thread or even a sub forum (although im not sure whether people will shy away from it because of it being barefoot... people with shod horses may not think they are relevant) would be a simpler idea tbh :)

Good idea. The only problem I have is that every case is individual so should be considered on its own merits. However, if you can tell me categorically how I can feed for stronger hooves, that can only be beneficial.

Oberon is it the phoenix one I have seen references to?

Yes.

The trouble with a sub forum is that

a) TFC won't support it (it's been suggested before).

b) people will read it and feel the advice doesn't refer to them as 'their horse is different'

c) generic advice doesn't cover individual needs.

FWIW, I have compiled a word document with generic advice on improving hoof health that I happily forward to people when they send up a flare and then if they have questions I can answer on an individual basis.

That's the best I can do :).

I'm sending up a flare :o

My mare is barefoot but there's a piece of the puzzle missing because she's not quite rock crunching. Please would you send me the document? Thank you:D

Sorry for the hijack

Oberon, pls could i have a copy too?

Our connie mare had her shoes off on Tuesday, the ISH eventer is having hers off on 5th Nov & the old connie gelding had his backs off this week with a view to taking fronts off in six weeks.

Have been doing my best with them on a barefoot diet, from information gleaned from on here, but would like to know if there's more i could do.

Many thanks x

Yes pls Oberon! My horse has been barefoot for a few years now but struggling this year over stoney ground, he has put on weight and I do now I need to reduce sugar in diet - only on turn out during day and hay, no hard feed but would like to see if any supplements would help, many thanks x
