Maybe a silly question - riding in the rain?

Someone has probably mentioned it already, but for a taster of what it's like to move a horse somewhere totally alien look up Firewell on here, she moved from the UK to California!

I read and posted on her thread about her first horse show in California! It gave me a bit of a giggle, now that I understand a bit about the way horse shows run in the UK. I could completely understand the culture shock and her surprise! I'll likely have to be led around at first like a kid in a leadline class when I head to my first SJ competition in the UK.

Which part of the UK are you coming to OP???

Coz, basically, ALL parts of the UK are wet, but some are wetter than others, i.e. I'm in the Westcountry (down the Sharp End as you look at the map) - otherwise known as the Wet Country :) I find that the best thing to wear are endurance-type tights in the summer as they're a technical fabric which doesn't hold water or for the winter the fleecy lined ones are good as you're so warm and cosy in them that your body heat will repel rain. Worst thing is jeans or any cotton fabric coz it holds the moisture.

Just an aside, and a piece of advice: and I am sorry if being seen by others on here to be "preaching"; but here in the UK you'll find no doubt that you will have to do some road-riding unless you're very lucky and settle in a place where you can ride out to open country straight from the yard. Please please please make sure you wear a high visibility jacket; or you can get hi-viz tabards very cheaply - which will make sure you and your horse are seen and safe.

Think you're very brave moving your horse over here; well done you for being committed to it. Hope it all goes well. Let us know won't you!
