mc timoney (sp!): not a waste of money is it?

hi,
for those that read my post last night about my pony being incredibly lazy i haved decided to get his back checked beings as he has never had it checked before.

so anyway my parents think im stupid and are saying that i am wasting my money because i am going to get a mc timoney person out and they are saying that they will tell me my pony has problems when he doesnt so that i have to spend lots of money.

mc timoney isnt a waste of money is it?

ithink it would be a good idea for my pony to get his back checked.
 
My AI is also a McTimoney chiro and she regularly checks C's back for the early signs of problems and has treated him on several occasions. In 2 years, I have never not been able to ride him, albeit with some restrictions at times.
 
I would recommend having your vet take a look and then refering you to a physio/chiropractor or whatever rather than spend money on something that will only treat the symptoms and not the cause, if there IS a problem.

Definitely not!

My horse was "lazy" and "had a sense of humour" and has now been found to have back probs.

But I'd also consider a Physio! It was the physio who identified my horse probs. The vet said there was nothing seriously wrong the week before and suggested physio! Physio identified the back probs.

ETA you need your vets approval first.
 
Definitely not a waste of money.

worked wonders for one of my boys. Lady I used is very well respected in my local area and further beyond in racing yards as well. I recommended her to a friend of mine who was deeply sceptical (thought it would be a waste of money) until he saw her in action - now he is "converted" too.

I went directly to her, without going through a vet. It was obvious to me that all was not well with the pony and she cost the same as the vet call out fee.
 
Forgot to mention, but don't use McTimoney as a substitute for a good saddler, good dentist (not a vet doing dentistry), good farrier and knowing your horse.
 
I have used a Mctimoney practioner and also a physio for one of my horses. In my opinion the Mctimoney was a complete waste of time and money - she charged me £55.00 and spent 10 mins with my horse and didn't tell me anything I didn't already know - she also said she should see him in 3 months time as he was so bad. On the other hand, the physio who was recommended by my vet was excellent - she spent 1 hour with my horse, gave me exercises for him and said that as his back and mobility were pretty good, that she should see him in a year's time unless I had any problems with him. She also charged just £30.00. Sorry to put the dampers on Mctimoney - but I would not use one again.
 
No experience of McTimoney on horses, but I have on my own back and assume it's much the same!

I couldn't even walk when I went to see a McTimoney chiropractor - was a sudden thing when I was riding so was complete with boots, chaps, spurs etc. I couldn't get any of that off I was in so much pain...anyway...after my treatment, which I was thinking, as if this is going to help because it was so gentle...I got up, walked out and put my boots on as I left. Amazing!

It must work on the same principles for horses so I'd definitely say it's worth it.
 
We had our horses done last week. My mum's horse feels so much more free through his back and is really stepping out, which he didn't before. Also he seems less sensitive when touching his back or putting the saddle on.
 
Hi there

A Mc Timoney is a fantastic way to sort out your horses back problems. Mc Timoneys have a lot more sense of "feel" then normal ciro's and are a lot me humane and sensative to the horses needs.I have used many ciro;s and i have always had the best results with a Mc Timoney.

thanks everyone, dr james, my pony has his saddle checked regularly as well as his teeth and he has a good farrier.


have since spoken to mc timoney person and they are coming out mon and will charge about £30. so i will see how it goes.

dont seem to have any equine physio's around my area.
