I'm concerned that my pony needs to see a back person as she is struggling to canter on the correct leg whilst schooling and also went off on the wrong leg on the lunge this morning for the first time ever. (She has only been back in work a month, has lost muscle and I've booked my saddler to check her saddle still fits).

RI said since I'm getting someone to look at the pony I might as well get my horse checked out as he struggles to flex through his poll.

Do I need a back person or McTimoney practitioner?

Can anyone recommend one in Herts please?

What do you mean by a "back person"?

A Mctimony practitioner is (very) basically a chiropractor, they make very subtle adjustments in the alignment of the spine.
A oesteopath will look at the entire skeleton of the horse and in some cases will make the horse worse before it gets better, due to the massive impact they can have.
A phsiotherapist, IMO is more for rehab purposes. They focus more on soft tissue.

Whatever you decide make sure they are qualified and check with your vet before treating, as they are breaking the law if they don't.

Here's a list of registered mctimoney practitioners in Herts.

Hope that helps!

We have a 'back person' who coming to our yard every six months, I only call her a back person because she isn't a McTimoney practitioner

She must be an equine chiropractor, the only reason I asked, is we had it drilled into us at uni that "there's no such thing as a back person!"

Sorry I can't vouch for anyone over that way of the country, I'd ask my friend who they use but can't get hold of her right now!

I use Physio and Mctimoney, physio because he has serious issues with his muscles (or he did) and Mctimoney to help with his muscles, they work really well together. He'll coninue to have physio every 3/4 months and physio every 9-12 months....costs a fortune but i have a happy horse that likes to work.
