I really really need to get around to sorting out the water troughs at our place (been there since Aug and still relying on manually filling the troughs from the main one!).

So, I have 20mm mdpe that runs the length of the field - there is a conveniently placed join where I want to insert a tee to run another trough off of to supply the summer field. I have a roll of 25mm mdpe (kindly donated by mums friend at southern water!) - I cannot find a tee that is 'increasing', only 'decreasing' (I.e I can find ones that fit 25mm and have a 20mm pipe coming off, but not the other way around!). Anyone have any idea where I can look?

Also - I want to extend from where the existing trough is (and the existing pipe ends) up to the stables to have a tap, and to essentially move the trough into their winter field (I have two troughs you see, one hooked up and one not which I move around depending on what field they are in - yes I lug a metal trough around in my wheelbarrow, must be insane!).

Whilst looking on plumbing websites that sell all the connector thingies, I see references to male and female joins - how do I know what to buy in order to extend from the end of the existing pipe and what should I use in order to attach a tap? Sorry if that sounds rather blonde, I just don't want to get the wrong bits!!

Any tips, or pointers to good sites that explain these things much appreciated! :-)

Have you tried screwfix?
If you break into your pipe and fit one of these on each end they will take the pipe size up to 25mm. A short piece of 25mm will then link into and equal 25mm t piece. You will obviously need to make the gap in the 20mm pipe big enough to fit these in!

That gets your supply to the water trough sorted.

Don't forget to use these though!

Tip when using these spray them with WD40 first - makes them much easier to knock into the end of the pipe!!

Thanks those couplers look like a good idea!

skye_and_i: end fitting with female 1/2" or 3/4" bsp thread for your bib tap - that has flown way over my head!!!!

Not hard to confuse me though!!

Wow... I wish I understood this!

Another blonde question or three: where does the length of blue pipe actually start? The water main, or from an outside tap? Does a plumber fit it or the water board? And do they freeze as easily as hosepipes?

My pipe actually runs off of a trough in the adjacent field (with a nice handy tap to turn off the supply!), and that trough is hooked up to mains. No idea who would fit them though!

Yes they freeze very easily!
