Me again - Unfixed Portable - Petition

Yes, I see your point, not sure if i can ask moody_mare to alter the wording slightly. it doesn't say to ban portables, just 'unfixed portables', which is the whole point.
i guess we were thinking that a petition would spread the word and show how many people feel strongly about this, then that number can be mentioned in correspondence with comp centres, schooling venues etc... basically we need to be able to convince the doubters that these things really are a hidden danger UNLESS they're properly anchored, in which case we have no problem with them.

Ah so it does - apologies. Your are absolultely bang on about raising awareness I guess the question still stands, that in reality how can this be policed and in the future monitored to ensure that new courses/venues are brought to the attention of the relevant 'authority'. Forums like this are certainly a great way of getting the word out about the good and the bad of anything in the equine world. Keep up the good work. Definately made me think twice this week end about the jumps on our XC course

I have posted the link on twitter and have asked horse and hound to re-tweet it to their followers - hopefully they will!

i was just sitting here and thinking about doing that when i read your post, Jess - great idea, thankyou.
eviebabes, please could you let us know which venue that was that had their portables anchored?

i totally accept that this won't be possible to 'enforce' especially at private yards BUT the more people that know about it, the more publicity we get, the more the HUGE hidden danger of them will be out in the open. I think that's all we can hope for. If H&H and other major national publications (Horse&Pony, YourHorse, etc etc) will run a feature on it, great. Maybe we need a group letter we could all put our (real) names to... local publications... absolutely anything really to spread the word.

Also, is it worth asking PC/BE to send a warning email to their members? It will, afterall, highlight the fact that at BE/PC competitions the fences are safe and anchored properly, whilst getting the word around even further.
