Hi everyone
We have 4 beautiful dogs who are our life. Our youngest as been a poorly puppy since we got him which as broken our hearts. The end result being he cant enjoy the outside without getting ill. This means are other 3 have to be put through so much just to go for a walk so they dont bring back any bacteria.
So we decided to rent a field and then they can run and play to their hearts content something we so much want to see. We cant find a field to rent and was wondering if anyone knew of any fields to rent only a small one near Worksop Nottinghamshire. I am keeping my fingers crossed for some good news for once and hoping it wont be long before he can go run with his brothers and sisters. Thank you in advance:(
 
I know but I want to fench it in and use a solution the vets are going to give me to rid it of any bacteria which works for 1 month.
The ideal solution is not go out but that is not fair so I am trying to just sort another solution.

You're going disinfect a whole field? :eek3:
 
If you are putting a solution on the dogs that works for a month then surely you can then take them elsewhere. Without sounding heartless it sounds like there maybe should be some soul searching done here.
 
Hmm, you can always check out sites like craigslist... But is this really a good solution?

I feel for you though - you just want to see the pups being able to run around to their heart's content...
 
Sounds a bit suspicious to me frankly,you would have been better advised to work on building up the immunity by exposure and something like echinacea daily.To what exactly is this animal allergic to,as proven by tests?

There is no such disinfectant.

What is the pup's problem?
 
If you are actually planning on disinfecting the whole field - consider the environmental impact, and the number of laws you are potentially breaking.

If your dog is so ill it can never fulfil its potential as a dog - put it to sleep.
 
I do think you may need to consider the quality of this dog's life and the quality of life of your other dogs if they are having to be curtailed/contained.
I did have a dog who was extremely sensitive to lots of different environmental things, I know how hard it can be, and he did not make old bones. I'm not entirely sure I would go through it all again.
 
I have never wrote on a forum before and after some of the comments I wont be again. Thank you to those who were feeling my frustration. All I wanted to do was keep my puppy well and safe while he builds up strength and his immune system. He is a happy lively puppy and NO I could never put him to sleep what an awful thing to say. My older dogs have not be contained I have ensured they still go about there normal routine I love my dogs. I just wanted a place to take them and let them run together. All my babies were bought from a reputable breeder and cost between £600 and £850 for the person who asked. As for the environment NO laws would have been broken. He is getting stronger every day and his prognosis of a happy life is very good how can anyone judge me for wanting to look after my dogs and give them a good life. There is nothing un toward or suspicious just a dog lover trying to do my best. Just to confirm I needed a place where no other dogs were so they could not pass anything to him. A lot of dogs carry things which dont infect them or hurt them so that was another reason for the person who thinks I am trying to do something dodgy.

Could be the breeder isn't so 'reputable' after all as his cold be a hereditary problem. Mind you no 'breeder' is reputable in my book when they are breeding mongrels and selling them for these ridiculous amounts of money. With the amount of abandoned dogs being destroyed every day, these sorts of breeders churning out 'designer puppies' (ie ones with stupid made up names) really p*ss me off! :(
I hope you find a cure for your puppy, noone likes an animal to suffer but maybe if you said what was actually wrong then people may be able to off some advice.

After my comments you mean....

People can only comment on the information given - which you've now expanded on. So the prognosis is good and your puppy will recover from whatever is wrong with him - fantastic!
 
FGS the whole it is ok to breed pedigree again, I don't understand--
IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE TO BREED IN THE CURRENT CLIMATE UNLESS YOU HAVE GUARANTEED HOMES FOR LIFE FOR EVERY LITTLE LIFE THAT IS GOING TO POP OUT REGARDLESS OF BREED.
you all speak as if every pedigree is well bred and non end up in rescue

OP I was just curious as to what was wrong with puppy and if there was a different way to help your situation
 
Just out of curiosity-

If you DID find a field- and disinfect it- how would you stop air borne pathogens reaching the field/ your dog from dogs living nearby/ passing the field?

Does not sound at all like a feasible option to me.
 
I don't really understand what you're saying Bonifer. How can your other dogs be going about their normal lives as you say? Surely that would mean they're bringing contamination back to the poorly one then? :confused3:

Why won't you say what the diagnosis is? There's every chance that someone here would have first hand experience of most conditions and be able to help.

I don't know why you're so outraged at what people are saying here. Sometimes putting an animal to sleep is the kindest thing (and least selfish), and it's fair to suggest you consider it if as you say he's always been "a poorly pup". No-one's forcing you to do anything, they are just suggesting you might consider the option.

The jury's out for me on this one. Having worked in the dog show world many years ago I'm under no illusion that breeding pedigree dogs is always done responsibly. Also in some ways, crossbreeds might result in stronger, healthier and certainly less in-bred dogs.

However, I do find it unpalatable that because you can give them a comedy name and sell to fashion victims, mongrels are suddenly changing hands for the best part of a thousand pounds a pup. :(
 
I have explained myself he as a very low immune system so anything like campolobacteria gardia etc he picks up immediately making him poorly. I dont understand why people are talking about pedigree or not all dogs get ill and I love my dogs even though as one of you said silly names breeders give there dogs mine are COCKAPOOS. I know i cant protect him from all airborne bacteria but I can try and limit the bacteria he comes in contact with. Really dont understand why me trying to do my best is causing some of you to be so anti this. As for the breeder all my 4 came from them and they are not ill and have been tested to check they have no bacteria which could pass on. As for the field I just wanted somewhere although not perfect better than a field which hundreds of dogs have used where many owners dont pick up after them and leave germs.

I think what people are saying is there is no such breed as a cockerpoo, but they are lovely little mutley dogs, IMO.
I hope your pup gets well and has a long and happy life.
 
Mud contains germs, grass contains germs, the air contains germs- you would need a sealed environment for it to be of any use at all.

What is the vets diagnosis of your pups problem? what caused his immune system to be inadequate?

Our breeds were bred for a purpose , even just to be a companion. These poo cross designer breeds are breeding two completely different types of dog together for no purpose at all. Some are hypoallergenic but not all so you can't guarantee that.

Without exception strains existed before any labels were applied and in the case of the few breeds that derived from crossing ( Dobes, Cesky & Silken windhund among them) it took generations with many pups discarded -given away or PTS - before the breed was even considered a starin or type. Putting two breeds together to sell the pups for, often, more than a purebred is a recent phenomenon and these pups can & do have the health problems of both breeds. People believe what they are told by the greeders selling them.
Well bred dogs are health tested and problems avoided and the breeders take back so they don't fill rescues. Poorly bred purebreds can & do have avoidable problems as do crosses.

Sounds like these people don't realise the costs of fencing, the requirement for planning permission, the illegality of applying unlicensed chemicals to land and how much this puppy farmer is rubbing hands together.
