What programme was this?! My dog has a white chest, is roughly ESS sized and 'fluffy' - he's Portuguese! There is no spaniel in there anywhere!!

He does look a bit like a Tibetan just goes to show how many dogs that would be described fairly similarly actually have wildly different origins!! Annoyingly mine mainly gets mistaken for a labradoodle by people in the park :<

Exactly Aru,challenge to build on the immune system.Can hardly belief that any vet actually recommended some kind of protective bubble.I sold a lab bitch to a lady,she pampered it and every time it had some fun rolling and gobbling in some horse/cow/sheep ***** it was rushed to the vet!This puppy had been raised on raw tripe and soaked biscuit without any problem.Her vet LOVED her.

I wrote a paper on the role of the dog in the ancient world. Along the way in my research, I was sidetracked into reading about labradors. Apparently, when first brought to Britain, there were not enough of the original dogs to sustain a healthy breeding pool. So they used spaniels and newfoundlands etc to widen the genepool and then recrossed them back to each other to get the type they wanted.

Cba looking up the exact articles etc right now, but there are some fascinating books out there on the history of dogs.
