The hunt came through our yard today and all the horses out went mad apparently... though I am not excusing him...

I did all my stable chores and then went to catch him in. By this time it was pitch black and he is in an 8 acre field.

I called him and normally he answers, but he didn't so I toddled off up the field in the dark to find him. All the others were together and he was nowhere to be seen... this is very unusual for him.. I walked around the fence line near to where they were and called and called.. no answer.. couldn't find him. By this time I was worried that he'd either gone mad when the hunt went past and either jumped out or was laying somewhere with a broken leg.

I went back to to the yard and got a torch. After about half hour of walking round the 8 acre field I found him alone, at the furthest corner.... just standing there

It's so unlike him so I am worried.... but so mad at him for making me worry.. there's probably nothing wrong, he was just being awkward.. but... grrrrrrr... horses !

I bring all mine in when the hunt are round as I worry about them getting hurt. They do trash their stables as it is just soooo exciting but at least I know they are safe and in one piece.
I'm sure your lad will be fine. Maybe keep an eye on him and see hop he goes.

Scooby sometimes does this if the other horses have been picking on him and he doesn't want to walk past them to get to me (big wuss!). Do they make reflective turnout rugs? That would make it sooo much easier to find horses in the dark... if they don't, I'm copyrighting it!

I'm sure he'll be fine, he probably exhausted himself trying to join in the hunt and couldn't be bothered to walk to you!

The hunt when through when my lad was a youngster..it upset him for days

He was probably a little stressed by it all,is a little overwhelming seeing that lot when you have never seen them before

,he may be a little odd for a day or too but am sure he will be fine

Little bugger making you walk round 8 acres though

I know... littel git. Just glad he's ok really. He's normally such a sociable horse, and even if he won't come to me he's always with his field mates.. which is what worried me more than anything... they are all young and playful and don't fight.. so I don't think he was away from them for any sinister reason.. perhaps he was just pooped from hooning... I'm sure all will be back to normal tomorrow.

Sounds like it blew his brain a tad

poor guy must have stood in the corner knackered trying to work out why lots of dogs followed by horses were sent to disturb his peaceful grazing time

Bet he was pleased to see his stable tonight

Update tomorrow?hope he ok

Ron wouldn't talk to me the other day cos I didn't take him hunting (because, in my defence, he was missing a shoe).

I know what it's like walking round 8 acres, Ron makes me do it every single time. he's happy to be caught, just equally happy to laugh at you as you walk past him several times in the dark.

What a worry... i am glad that our fields arnt that big and we dont get the hunt near us... we are a bit to built up when i am.

In answer to this... they dont make HI-VIS ones but i have seen somewhere black rugs with refelctive stars as the pattern... you can get them for dogs as well as horses...

Might solve your problem Charmaine18... hope your horse was just having an odd day.. im sure he will be fine! x

Well, he seems fine this morning... when I got out of my car I did my usual 'good morning Phe' yell across the yard and he answered! lol I think he was just knackered.. he's like sh*t off a shovel when he gallops about.. always in the lead in his herd, so he must have had a mad one.

In answer to the reflective rug question... last night when I went back to the yard to get a torch, one of the livery ladies said she had a reflective spray paint I could spray on his rug!!!
