So got round to taking some more pics last night of the hairless one and actually there is a dramatic improvement (I have now become a Green Clay evangilist!).

Managed to finally get some pics of the wound on his Pastern which still looks horrible but when you consider a month ago it was 8cm x 8cnm and 4cm deep it has done brilliantly.

Plan is to let me laddo rest for August and put on some weight. I will then have him x-rayed (just to confrim there is nothing underlying) then start ground work starting at 15 mins a day and wrking up slowly. Aiming to get him under saddle in October with an aim to moving him out of Training Livery (or horse hospital as it has turned out!!) In November.

Cross everything!

Great progress. I must admit seeing the photos when you first posted made me really cring. So glad that he's making a recovery.
 
Oh my gosh! i havent read any of your previous posts so i dont know his history, i can gather he got cast and seriously hurt himself!? Poor pony. His wounds are looking loads better though, very impressive green clay work indeed! Good luck with him.
 
NicolaReid - We have been literally spreading him in Bentoniteo r French Green Clay.....stunning stuff...kept it fly free infection free and helped the skin to come away....once skin dry and pink we have been spreading him in Aloe. He still has the green clay spread (as you can see) on any open areas i.e. pastern and just above the eye.

Girlychicx - rolled in his stable a month ago and got his off hind food caught in the stable divider we estimate he was down for 4 - 5 hours....all along one side he was one big pressure sore and the skin just bubbled and came away....
 
thanks for that! ive never heard of it! i have an accident prone throughbred + because of the thin skin she tends to scar very easily so i think i will get some to try on her!!
 
I was horrified at his pics when i saw his photos on original post .wow he looks so much better .Hope he continues to improve hes definitely a walking advert for green clay bless him.

Thanks for that but the main kudos has to go to my trainer Astrid and her team.....they took him in on training livery and ended up nursing him and dressing wounds six times a day in the first couple of weeks.....they have been amazing and much of his recovery is down to the quality of their care.

I really was unsure when it was first suggested, and really thought we ought to go down the keeping the skin moist route and it is disturbing seeing your horse encased in the stuff and looking like the thing from the black lagoon. However I am happy to be proved wrong goes to show you never stop learning. And it is something I shall now always keep in my tackroom.

And it is not expensieve the 5kg tub was only 16 Euro and has lasted for a couple of weeks (and we are using a lot of it). For the new skin the vet recommened a wound creme which was 30 euro a tube......it lasted a day....so I have gone over to Aloe Jelly at 6 euro a pot.

I have though started something of a trend at the yard.....every darned horse in the place seems to be dotted in green clay on all their scrapes knocks and flybites.
