Measuring a girth

I think generally yes, it is these days, but some are not measured this way. So I'd suggest checking before you buy. I got caught out on this with a leather girth, so it was an expensive mistake :(
 
All manufacturers are now selling in from of buckle end to buckle end

However in America and old fashioned saddlers they do occasionally sell in lengths excluding the buckles, but this is not the norm (we did have a batch measured without buckles and stamped as such, so had to be very explicit what we were measuring on eBay!)
