I have a 10 year old 14.2 who I need measured to enable him to continue competing at BS once he has won £50 I believe. I’m a little muddled about the measuring rules. As he’s over 7 years old can I get him measured twice by different vets in one year to achieve his life height certificate or do I have to have a measurement in separate years? Any info would be gratefully received as I’ve read the JMB rules and am struggling!! Thanks

You will need 1 annual measurement this year, next year will be the life one, they cannot be done in the same calendar year unless you have a gold one done which probably costs far more.

An annual measurement is just the same as a life height. The process for challenge is exactly the same. Measure him when it suits and if you are still competing BS in a year then go again. There is nothing magic about an LHC for an older animal. At 10 he is not going to grow more!

Thanks you’ve made it all make much more sense. My next challenge is to stop him growing an inch when they bring the stick near him Practice here we come!

Lots of practice - but vets are very understanding. See if you can find one who will let you lunge before they try - and don't forget you have to take the shoes off so you'll need farrier visits to bookend the measuring if you are normally shod.
