MEAT!!!!

I feed mine raw meat from AMP products - you can buy it frozen either as mince or in blocks - also have my show dogs on James Wellbeloved -one of the best of the complete feeds. Nature Diet is also excellent but I had real problems getting hold of it in sufficient quantities ( have 7 Belgian Shepherd Dogs ) - if you can get a regular supply then i would reccommend that as an ideal compromise betwen complete and BARF diets

[/ QUOTE ]Nature Diet & Biscuits over Frozen raw chicken/mince?

Hmm....strange. I think he should have recommended a diet for the little fella. What was the biscuit?

[/ QUOTE ]I can't remember - it's not a biscuit I have seen down south... all he said was feed the ickle man that...

Bit late to add this now, but rather you than me feeding Chappie - all dogs I have ever known seem to love it, but to me it smells just awful

Mind you, I feed a little bit of Butchers Tripe tinned food with the all-in-one to make my fussy trollop of a greyhound eat, and that smells just the same before feeding as afterwards if you catch my drift - not very nice first thing in the morning

Well ideally the BARF diet is the most suited to a dogs digestive system but is not always practical ( especially if you have loads of dogs like me

) - so I think the next best thing would be Naturediet - but with NO biscuits - dogs simply do not need any wheat products - and it can cause horrible skin and digestive problems.

[/ QUOTE ]Hmmm conflicting statement!! Eeekkk

I thought Nature Diet Contained Cereal?

We got our Dobermann puppy last weekend and we been told about too much protein as well. He was 8 weeks on tuesday and is having 4 meals a day of a kibble called Nutro. He has raw mince with it sometimes a tin of tuna in oil bits of raw turkey. Our breeder recommends the barf diet but for babies make sure the meat has been frozen beforehand. He has lovely bones kindly donated by the local butcher and will be having his first chicken wings on saturday. I have asked for a food processor for xmas so I can start adding veg to his food as well and make lovely soups to soak his Nutro with. He also has goats milk which he loves, never cows milk.

There is a company called Landywoods which supply food suitable for the barf diet and they deliver pretty much every where. eg the chicken 'mince' packs are pure chicken including bones minus the head feet and internal bits. We have just got another freezer to keep in the shed with all his stuff in! Im going to try him with tripe next! green of course

Reading all this I am mystified that our dogs have ever survived!
They get fed valu mix or muesli stuff (cheap) with scraps and whatever they catch, so a lot of rabbit and mouse! As pups we were slightly more careful, but not a lot!

Oh well...

Nope - Naturediet is a moist meat product that you buy in ready to serve cartons - it contains no cereals and is an easy and conveniant way of giving the BARF diet

Completely agree, (though I have coeliacs and my dogs have to have a gluten free diet) wheat is a spawn of satan! The only grains that are good for a dog is rice.

Thanks everyone!!

I have started the boys on Nature Diet..

Finn and Tinks are loving it - at the moment I am feeding it with the remaining biscuits they have however once they are gone Finny will be getting 4 packets a day and Tinker will get 2!!
