That sounds like a good lesson. I also found (to my surprise) that it was really useful. Felt good to be able to focus on myself without 'worrying' about the horse. So I booked five lessons, feel I can learn a lot about position and weight aids.

Was your horse a Joker-type (that you have to move yourself) or was it a riding simulator?

A riding simulator I think.I didn't have to move it myself.The lady who owns in and taught me had to have a period off riding because of ill health.She was quite shocked at how much she had lost muscle wise when she resumed and this was her answer.
 
Similar.I didn't have a saddle and there was no "Head" just a handle which you could use if necessary.I did at first but when doing the exercises left alone.
 
I have regular mechanical horse lessons (the racewood simulator) and have seen great results, i can work on myself without worrying about the horse breaking the gait. You can flop around and it won’t mind 😄. You can train yourself to be straight and therefore be more attuned to if your horse isn’t. Endless benefits
 
Just found one here! Will definitely be giving that a go. Is it normal to take your own saddle? If so I’ll have to wait until after my next saddle fitting as it may change.

IME it’s optional to take your own saddle, there will be a provided saddle available to ride in. My saddle fitter was posting recently how she’d done a saddle fit check at Racewood HQ - even saddles fitted to simulators need regular checks and flocking adjusted as necessary 😁.

I have persuaded my boyfriend to try this when winter comes (too busy land managing ATM). He is learning to ride but my horses are great, but not riding school horses. Rigs is a bot small and old for much school cantering with him and BH a little inexperienced to teach canter.

I am looking forward to this in winter!
 
I’d love to try one. They have one at Naylors near me but it’s right in the middle of the shop with a little fence around it so I’d be too embarrassed 😂
I do need to find one though.. if anyone knows on in Glos/Oxon?
 
I’d also love to try one. I don’t know where my nearest one would be but I’m not off island that much to go.

Where?
I went to The Dressage Shed in Limavady a few weeks ago and def no saddle needed. Her “horse” (Daphne) has one! It was absolutely fantastic, well worth the trek up - Eilish who runs it is absolutely lovely and gives some fantastic insights.
 
Would be interested in getting some lessons. Been out of the saddle for a year, need to get some fitness back and this would be good to get some finesse back before getting on a horse.

Please could people say where they’ve been (and where in the country) and hopefully can find one not too far from me.

We had this one come out to our yard in East Herts but looks like the centre is in Dorset. Not sure how many you need for a yard visit

The Racewood simulator training centre in based in Tarporley, Cheshire. Personally I haven’t been to it, it was set up fairly recently I think, but Racewood have cornered the market in good riding simulators.

There are training days there on your own horse plus sessions on the simulator - that sounds fascinating. If I had a current riding horse I’d certainly take that up.

ETA The weight limit for all of the Racewood simulators is 16 stone.

I'd live to have a go too. I went on one once way back when Your Horse Live was at Solihull Riding Club and probably only attracted 200 people so the queues weren't too bad lol
