Hi everyone,

I have a question in regarding to my horse. I'm from Belgium so my English is not the best but I'm going to try to explain the problem.

I have a dressage horse who is at the moment 14 years old. I ride competitions with him (flying changes, appuyement, ...) so we've been training a lot. Unfortunately he made a wild movement on the feeld and he started limping. After some days we decided to go to the clinic for a check-up. After an investigation of some days we had to make an MRI scan to know what the problem is.
This is the conclusion from the vet:

Moderate core lesion of the medial oblique sesamoidean ligament
Mild diffuse desmopathy of the medial collateral ligament of the distal interphalangeal joint
Mild effusion of the distal interphalangeal joint
Mild osteoarthritis of the proximal interphalangeal joint
(Very mild enthesopathy of the proximal suspensory ligament)
Chronic smooth exostosis of the mid diaphysis of the second metacarpal bone

They advised us to give the horse a period of rest for about a year. He has had some shockwave therapies and special irons.
But we have some doubts about the prognosis.

Is there someone who experienced the same problems with his horse? What did you do and did it work? Were you able to ride your horse again at a competition level?

My horse had a lesion on his distal sesamoidian ligament for which he had platelet rich plasma therapy. He also had surgery on his annular ligaments at the same time. That was 4 years ago and he’s hackable but I don’t school or compete him anymore. He’s 23yrs old though.

My horse had the same issue and same treatment as Sussexbythesea's horse. He had PRP in the sesamoidian ligament and the annual ligament cut. That was August 2015, he was sound by December 2015 but had to have almost a year off in the end due to a completely unrelated issue in a front foot. He was 18 at the time of the op, and he returned to full work (low level eventing) in 2017.
