My horse has been diagnosed with immune keratitis. He started with ulcers which have cleared and he now has Optimmune once a day. I have been advised to keep a mask on him at all times. Does anyone have any info/ advice on the future management of mediated immune keratitis and can I ride him in a mask. If so will this impact the way he behaves. He is a large horse but not a spooky one. His eyes look good now but I’m scared to ride without a mask unless it triggered another response. He has been an uncomplicated horse tk this point who loves living out and being ridden x5 times a week.

I rode B in her goggles earlier this year, the only time she got unhappy was when it got extremely hot and sweat would bead on the brows under the goggles, otherwise all good including jumping in arena. Took them off to jump indoors tho.
The eVysor ones are what I used, for Uveitis. She's currently off games with other ailments tho, since mid May.

I use a selection of beekeeper fly masks in daylight, she's happy to pop herself in a shelter much of the time when v sunny though.

Mine had keratitis treated by cyclosporine implants. They last about 18 months but hers are 4 years old and she’s not needed them replaced. Last checkup a few months ago showed she still has no active keratitis.

Oh that’s really interesting- the vet didn’t mention implants. Thank you. I will inquire. This is why I love this forum.

the e vysor goggles are fine to ride in. You just have to decide which pretty colour lens you want. :)

if you are not already there try FB group
equine recurrent uveitis support.

Not only for ERU but lots of info there about goggles, fly masks, implants, managing eye problems and if you search it there will be stuff about keratitis.
