Bit random but I just wondered if anyone here has the above kind of tack, fancy dress etc, or actually does jousting??
I'm obsessed with it and really want to dress my horses up as dragon slayers etc 🤣🤣🤣

I've done a little bit at the Knights of Middle England in Warwick. I did a 3 day course with them that involved drill riding, trick riding, tent pegging, horse archery, quintain stuff, sword work and a little bit of jousting. If it was nearer to me, I'd go jousting regularly! It's great fun.

I used to run a fifteenth century jousting team as part of our business. We made all of the gear, except for some of the saddles. We also did demonstrations of 17c baroque riding and made all the gear for that too. The training for both styles of riding is extremely interesting and produces light, maneuverable, steady horses.

There was a plan in place for my OH to take up blacksmithing so he could make me and two friends swords and horse armour. I bought him a weekend blacksmithing class and everything (£250!!!) and he is not following the plan! I will find a way yet.

There is (maybe was) a place locally that did horseback archery classes which is A DREAM.

Wish I could bring you out here for a lesson.

The (Western) hackamore training with Hermosa is going well. Maybe it has something in common. The steering is becoming as light as anything I have ridden.

Horse archery is great fun and very accessible (for most sensible horses). The BHAA website will point you to a local club and they’ll get you started.

Tilting could give you some of the jousting type experience.

This is fantasy stuff, nothing to do with jousting or anything historical. Swords, armour and other weapons are easily available from reenactment suppliers, and a sword can be bought for a lot less than £250 - I think you're due a refund from OH.
I am more into fantasy than actual medieval reenactment tbh OP said dragon slayers!! This is the vibe!

The OH also wasn't aware we had this plan for him, he just thought I got him a very thoughtful birthday present 😂

I used to make stuff for re enactors, historically correct not fantasy stuff.
Even the chain mail I made was rivetted not butted as most is today which it wasnt in medieval days
I have seen some awful things round the jousting shows, "knights" wearing motorcycle boots, knitted grey wool as chain mail, western saddles modern bridles, plus advanced armour from 1500 when they were supposed to be portraying King Arthur's era!
If you are going to do it, do it right.
I see the same historically incorrect equipment on films set in say 1300 with modern bits and tack on the horses!
Drives me nuts

How do you get into that kind of line of work? How did you get the job you do/did? I would love to do something like that.
Well, having a degree in history is helpful. And running a business making reproduction historical artefacts, weapons and clothing is also useful. My husband and I have been doing this for more than 25 years, until I retired (sort of) when he died 3 1/2 years ago. I kind of fell into production design/ costume design, and the rest is word of mouth.

Well done, it's rewarding seeing it done and made as it should be
Sorry to hear about your Husband.
