hey-i have just ordered the medium freestyle to music test (eek!!) and wondered if anyone new which movements r compulsory for the 2006 test in trot and canter? sorry i cant wait for the post...i wanna know now!!!
Compulsory moves are medium walk (20m), extended walk (20m), collected and medium trot, shoulder-in both ways, trot and canter half pass both ways, medium canter and simple change both ways. Can't remember off hand if counter canter is compulsory as well and I haven't got my sheet handy at the moment.

Yes, counter canter is required in medium and must be on a curve (eg. round short side/on a circle) to get decent marks.

I beg to difer on that one/... needs to be 15m but not nec on a circle.... DO NOT do Medium Canter or trot on a circle tho... most judges just dont like it!
On a bit of a different note - would I get penalised in a Novice freestyle if I did a bit of counter canter, i.e like in N21, teardrop back to the track and tinsy bit of counter canter?
Thanks.

Only if it is Counter canter that is shown in the novices ie on the half 10 mtr circle bvack to the track!
However if the movement is not shown in the Novices yes u will get penalised!

Re the medium Fs counter canter - the examples of round the short side or on a circle (or part of a circle) were intended to illustrate the need to more than simply return to the track and canter down the long side or do a loop down the long side.
Whilst the latter are technically counter canter, they will not earn decent marks and may even get a comment "insufficient c/canter shown".
An option is a serpentine with one loop in c/canter and, if your horse is obedient to the simple change, serpentine loops with s/changes into c/canter would be very impressive.
Medium trot and canter may be shown on a circle - but you have to be very good at it if you're going to give that a try. I wouldn't suggest anyone tries that unless their horse can really show a good, balanced medium, otherwise the judge may - once again - not see the movement clearly or mark it as insufficient.
Once extended paces are required, they MUST be shown on the straight line.
