I got thoroughly overexcited at an event on Sunday to see a haylage supplier was selling medium sized bales which would probably feed a horse for a week. I thought this is the answer to all my problems (!!!) and sent them an email asking for prices.

And got one back saying it was £30, THIRTY POUNDS, for a medium sized bale. I thought this was extraordinarily expensive considering bales twice the size sell for £25. How does that work?

Does anyone else get medium sized bales (think half of a normal 4 ft rectangular one) and how much are they?

It would be cheaper for me to buy the little Devon haylage bales from the feedshop and feed horse that I think!!

Was that maybe including the delivery? Many of the big suppliers only deliver in bulk orders so maybe that would be the reason if you only wanted a few? Even so sounds very over priced!

I guess its the convenience factor

If you scaled down a big bale in to sections the size of a small bale of Horsehage I bet the price of the latter would seem very expensive indeed but they are popular

I buy 50-60kg for £12, 125kg for £20-22. I think you're looking at 125kg though it will feed one for a fortnight.

I get round bales half the size of large round ones for £16.00 pluss £9 for delivery, although i split the delivery with a friends and order 6each. One of those bales lasts 1 horse and 1 pony nearly 2 weeks (both very good doers).

£35 delivered for appx 500kg bale from local farmer and its always top quality. 2 horses and 1 pony, lasts about two weeks, they are out with the bale 24/7 and eat the lot! 😀

i pay £20 for a medium sized bale from equigrass, and mine have never looked so well, its excellent service to back up a top quality product. never any mould or split bags and its not wet, but smells nice and sweet :)
