So after 4 hours of searching I've come to H&H for advice ;)

Well, I'll looking for something with a detachable neck (I was looking at Rhino Wug Plus rugs as I have the heavyweight one and it's fab!) But I have a budget of £80 which doesn't really stretch. And something which can withstand a lot of the Manchester rain

I was looking at this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Weatherbe...pment&var=&hash=item45fec54531#ht_2052wt_1199

But I've read that a lot of 600D rugs leak, and the majority of M/W turnouts are 600D.
I was also looking at the Amigo Hero 6 but once again 600D.

Can someone comfort me on this issue? Do 600D rugs leak that bad? I've been reading a lot of old threads which say look for something 1200D but my budget doesn't stretch that far.

:(

I've just posted a similar thread! I think it depends on brands tbh, I had a 600D lw gallop rug which leaked down the shoulders and occasionally seeped through the actual rug, I now have a 600D lw amigo which doesn't leak or seep at all, I also think the thicker rugs eg mw are less likey to soak through as there is more padding! My horse wintered out in a 600d last year and will be again this year.

We're in the same boat eh ;)
I assume the Weatherbeeta should be pretty good as I've seen them very highly rated on the forums.
Mine were turned out today in M/W and Gems Cuddly Ponies Rug (:o) left him bone dry. But today in Manchester there was quite heavy showers.

I just want to get my monies worth on what I spend really.

For strength and waterproofness 1200d is ideal really. I always think of 600d rugs as being more showerproof, rather than proper waterproof. Sometimes it's a false economy to choose a cheaper rug with a lower denier rating as you'll only end up with a soaked rug and wet horse if it rains really hard for any length of time. Then you'll need to have spares so rugs can dry off properly and that ends up costing more in the end.

I really like my Amigo 1200d t/o rug. They come in a range of weights and have the detachable neck available. Maybe look out for a second hand one in eBay? What size are you after, maybe we could help by keeping an eye out for you.

Edited to add: you're not looking for a 7ft one are you!!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Horseware...uipment&var=&hash=item3f08853e3b#ht_954wt_689

That's what I've been worrying about as a M/W is my main Spring/Autumn rug because my TB's are quite thin skinned (and wusses!) so need something a bit extra to keep them warm.
I was looking at the Bravo 12 Plus however, £109 :(
I've looked on eBay and sites such as Preloved. I found a bargain £80 Rambo M/W Plus but it doesn't seem in that great nick with lots of repairs etc.

I'm looking for a size 6'3
I'd appreciate it so much!

I've never had a problem with 600d rugs and we live in the Lake District where it rains all the time! In fact one of the best ones I've had is a middleweight saxon combo rug which are really cheap (but not suitable for cob types as not very deep!). I currently have a no fill Amigo on my TB and the rain today has been monsoon like - not leaked at all. The worst one I had for leaking was a Rambo super expensive one!

I've found that unless the horse produces a lot of heat (and therefore drives moisture back out) then 600D rugs sren't particualrly waterproof. Living up in scotland, waterproofness is important!!!

Have a look at Axiom rugs on ebay. They don't do detachable necks but they're really good quality, an excellent price (well within your budget)vand they do 1600D and 1800D rugs which I promise ARE waterproof!

Oh my that's confusing! I've had very cheap turnouts before and they've either leaked or the horse has destroyed them!

I really like mark todd or JHL both the same . I'm not sure if they are 600 or 1200 but wash and wear better than my amigo.

I was looking at the Brown Mark Todd M/W turnout, It's definitely on my list :)

I'll keep that in mind. I'll go on there and have a look now, must say if it's rug advice coming from someone in Scotland they must be right ;)

Oooh, that's not bad at all. Good price. I've seen some places asking £40+ with P&P on top of that, just for the neck! Well done :)

I really do like these rugs. They're light and comfy for the horse to wear, plus have the lovely full nylon lining which boost shine and stops chaffing. They're def waterproof, wash well and last. I've also got Rambos, Fals and Bucas t/o rugs, but these Amigos are genuinely the best for quality and value. I'm converted!

The wonders of eBay

And I'm quite proud of finding this one! I'm not really a great bargain hunter :o

A big thanks for helping me find the rug, this may be the potential winner! I'm a diehard Horseware Fan. I adore my Rhino Wug Plus. Keeps them nice and toasty. You could say mine are a sponsor for Horseware. Practically all of their rugs are either Amigo or Rhino!
My 12.2's Rhino Wug has survived being snagged on barbed wire with only a minor repair and being used every day over 2 Winters (November - February) and it's now in it's 3rd year :)
