Hi all,

I have posted in NL but no response!

I have a 3yr old dark bay gelding by Medoc and I would be interested to know if any one else on here has any Medoc offspring and what they are doing/ done or hoping to do with them.

Also I would love to know if my geldings personality traits are from the Medoc side. He is a very affectionate, loveable and cheeky character who is easily bored but has been a joy to back. I have owned him for 16 months but known him from birth.

Any replies gratefully received!

I know someone (a member on here) ;) who has THE most delightful colt foal by Medoc... Would snap him up if I could... Loads of presence and attitude but friendly and easy to handle... don't know any under saddle.

Thanks eventrider23 it's good to see what others are doing with theirs!

But i would love a reply from someone who currently owns a Medoc baby as I am interested in the temperament as much as anything else.

Ginnieredwings-Hopefully they will get in touch I will post some pics of him when I know how! I can relate to the presence and attitude but at the same time my boy is so loving and gentle he is like no other horse i have ever owned.

I was gutted to hear Medoc passed away as I would have loved my mare to have gone to him this season.

fliss26,

as G_R has mentioned, we do indeed have a colt by Medoc. His dam is back in foal to the same sire, and I would think that she's one of his last mares covered. When I saw Medoc, in the flesh, he was so much bigger than he looked in his pics. He was the kindest of stallions, and from those of his progeny, which I've seen, he sired some lovely, well mannered youngsters. Our foal is no exception, and from minimal handling, I can tell you that whilst he's bright, sparky and full of life, he has never shown any malice, accepting everything which has been placed before him.

Our foal, along with his in-foal dam is being offered for sale through the Horse & Hound, in the April 3rd. & 10th. issues.

We also have the generous loan of a recipient mare by the same stallion, carrying a transferred embryo.

Medoc sired a great many level headed youngsters, and I really don't think that he always received the credits which he deserved. I know that his owner was very distressed. A tragedy.

Alec.

ps. I'd like to see some pics, if you're feeling brave!! a.

Thank you for the replies it's nice to hear about other Medoc babies.

I would have loved to have seen Medoc in the flesh he looked fabulous from the pictures on the website. I am glad to hear he was quite big as my gelding is only 15.3 at the moment and I am hoping he will make 16.2 but I think that may be optimistic as his dam is only 15h. I plan to event him he is very short and compact with the prettiest little head. I shall attempt some pics shortly I would love to see pics of your little one.

I got two, 4-year old gelding approx 16.2hh, broken last summer, ridden for a while and then turned away for a couple of months. I've just started to ride him out again and no problems at all. He got very nice paces and he is out of a TB mare. Last year he won the Sport Horse and then the Hunter Championship. Our aim this year is the BYEH.
I also got his now yearling brother (which is for sale although I am not in a rush to sell) he is a dark bay with very good paces and as he was bigger than his brother at birth I think he might grow even higher than 16.2hh. Dam is 16hh.
Both are very kind and easy to do.
Medoc was a lovely big stallion, I met him quite a few times.

My friend has a 13 yr old by Medoc. He has jumped Disco and Newcomers with his previous owner and Novice BD with me, and has been placed every time out. My trainer adores him, and he has a lot more to give, but I'm busy with my new horse now, and his owner isn't competitive so he isn't doing a lot at the moment.

To ride, he's a saint, safe as houses. (and feels totally amazing!) To handle though, he's a miserable sod! Legs swing and you have to watch for teeth too!! But apparently his Mum was a total cow, so he probably got it from her. He used to be terribly food agressive, but his owner has worked hard with him and he is a lot better.

I used to own a Medoc mare. Incredibly talented at dressage (finished in top 10 potential international dressage horse at nationals as a 5 and 6 year old etc etc) but also had an amazing jump which was commented on at her inspection. Medoc was very much a duel purpose sire in that respect I believe. She graded elite British Hannovarian. Sharp and hot but not in a nasty way - you never felt she was going to put you off (unless that WAS her intention :D ). That nature is not a bad thing for an upper level horse and as a middle aged fat lady amatuer rider I had no probs riding her in that respect. She hacked out alone though liked to spook. Nice to handle on the ground. Not an affectionate horse but easy to do - you could take her for a lesson or to a show on your own and have no probs loading her, tacking her up and so forth. However she did say 'no' when she found upper level work difficult - but that may have be due to something physical that we just could not find, or just that she was pushed to hard too soon as a youngster.

Ssd to hear that he has passed away. I agree he was under utilised as a sire.

Pics never seem to do horses justice!! When he stood before you, he was lovely.

If you could send me a PM, with your e/mail address, then I'll send you some pics. I've tried posting pics on here, and it has never yet worked. I'm beyond help. I've given up!!

Alec.

The dam of my 5yo (different stallion) was only 15hh & his sire 16.1hh he has topped 16.1hh himself, so there is no reason why he should not make the height you want.

I own 2 Medoc BHHS mares, both 9 year olds and have owned them both since weaning - they have always been easy to do and a pleasure to own.

They can be sharp, but I expect a little fire in a sport horse - but are never nasty or mean-spirited.

Everyone who comes to view their foals always remark how easy and friendly they are, just like their dams.

I was very sad to learn of the passing of Medoc and my heart went out to the Walker family.
