Meet Eowyn

Well as LHS is wanting advice about advertising grass livery, I can only suppose that she doesn't have stables.

OP your horse is lovely, what a wonderful surprise.

Incidentally, my neighbour's field is outside our back window. Her horses have direct access to the window and can often be found looking in at us. We have lived here for 15 years, over that time neighbour has had several horses, none of them (or our window) has come to any harm.

Just wondering if she's quite small - or you OH is a giant! He makes her look about 14 hands!

Looks like you have a nice little (?) project there and I'll enjoy looking out for progress reports

My stables look very dingy on photo's and in fact in RL they aren't bad at all. I took a pic of one of our horses in it to send to her old mum, but changed my mind because it looked dire!

She looks gorgeous

i hope you have so much fin with her - do keep us updated and be sure to post pics for us

Oh and ... we don't plant flowerbeds in our horses fields so they 'look nice' and the horses don't seem to mind ... so why should they mind what their stable 'looks' like ... as long as it's safe and adequate that's all that matters!!!!

I have quite nice albeit home made stables within my American barn and will admit the window in each of my 5 boxes are not grilled, however they are high up and in the 6 years I have had horses here none have ever broken a window.

Yes perhaps I am taking a risk, but I can honestly say in the 6 years I have owned many horses & ponies here (many youngsters for breaking or re schooling for later sale) I have never ever had one injury or accident. Either in training or just in the yard or field. I have only ever had to get the vet out for emergency colic once in 6 years. Either I am very lucky or I am careful.

Judging care a person gives by the stable is crazy, I have seen many a very posh yard where the horses are zoned out and have a very miserable existence with little turnout. My yard could be viewed as posh as my homemade stables cost us thousands yet my horses are given first class care. We have an insulated American barn with cooling fans for summer and heating in winter. The boxes are very generous in size and are matted out. The yard is luxury in every way for both for the horses and humans. HOWEVER...

I will say when I first moved to this farm (my husbands old dairy farm, we no longer have cows) the horse I brought with me from Wales lived in a cow pen as a temporary measure whilst we were building the luxury stables, he had matting over the slatted floor, plyboard to protect him from the metal bars and cows for neighbours, but my god he never lacked love, fuss or feed.

My point being no one would judge me now although I often get accused of being a snotty madam (those who know me would laugh at that comment), but they would have from the early pics, perhaps taken at face value just at pics of my horses temporary stable called the RSPCA....The care I give is no different absolute first class, no time or expense spared.

What a nice pony

i hope u have lots of fun with her! I had my two horses on a "posh" yard for nearly a year, indoor school, indoor lodden stables etc etc and it was the most miserable time ever. My youngster turned into a dangerous nightmare as he wasnt allowed out much. so i moved to my little yard and theyve both never been happier. Ok i struggle to keep the muck heap under control sometimes, the stables are full of cobwebs and i dont sweep the yard 5 times a day but MY HORSES ARE HAPPY! Surely thats all that matters?!

My gosh!!! the OPs horse does not care if the stables are painted or cobweb free!!!! What a joke!!!! Snobbery and rudeness sometimes go hand in hand.

OP the stables are fine! Glad to hear the glass is covered now. Your horse couldn't give a toss about paintwork (haha) She looks a lovely sort and i hope you have lots of fun with her.

"Why is this horse wet"? LMAO!

"depressing accomidation"? LMAOOOOOOO!

If it was possible your horses would be laughing at you. Outside of the galss (which made me cringe too) The rest of the comments had me in stitches. Because bright white paint is so important in the life of a horse and cobwebs make them scared you know

Thanks guys!!!

I do feel as though my happiness has been tainted a bit, but at the end of the day I have a gorgeous new girlie to play with courtesy of the lovely situpstraight and my OH (hes bankrolling lol) and bitterness shows in many ways.

Hi,

I think that if you care to read the entire thread thoroughly you will find that people are not being rude to NiknKia at all, but rather have taken offence at the way another member voiced her opinions.

What did she mean by 'farmer sorts'?

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats got to you hasn't it? I'm not sure but i wouldn't worry about it. I think farming people are the same as anyone so not sure what that one meant???

Possibly sort that have land and stables but actually have to work for a living and don't have time/need/money to put in fancy loddon boxes in an American barn with a heated tack room.

OK its not brilliant, but its a LOT better than some BHS register places I ave seen around where I live!! One has pony stables with partitions made from old scaffolding poles.

Just to add - - no offence to those who have these and are, I was just guessing (and its also what I wish for!!)

Eowyn is GORGEOUS!!! If you werent so far away I would seriously be considering stealing her!!

Ignore the comments from LHS. The horses look happy and healthy and thats all that matters!
FWIW Faith was in a similar stable (pics taken 2 days before she was sadly PTS):

Enjoy your new horse who looks lovely btw, ignore the bitchy comments they are only intended to bring you down off your high of your new horses arrival, envy perhaps. Even through your posts I can tell how much you dote on your horses.

LHS get a life and stop being so downright nasty.

Maybe the bl@@dy roof leaks aswell
grin.gif

Well... I'm on what you would probably call quite a swanky yard LHS... huge American barn, only a few years old, hardwood stables, well ventilated, stocks, rubber matted wash box, access to warm water, clean, tidy etc... and even our roof leaks! You can't have it all! In fact I've never been on a yard where the roof doesn't leak...
smirk.gif

I would take the window out or put a grill over it but otherwise, I don't see a problem with those stables. Not everyone can keep their horse on a big competition yard that the head girl has time to sweep twice a day! The horse doesn't care if there are cobwebs (you wanna come see the cobwebs at the top of our barn.... posh barns aren't all that cos you can't reach the cob webs!) - my horse's stable has cobwebs in but I'm not going to sweep them down until he's out for summer, when I do my spring clean.

LHS!! Who the hell do you think you are? Some body that reads far to many books i think???

Last I heard a few cobwebs didnt do a horses health any harm! Take a long hard look at your own horses health & environment before you go spouting off about others!

Folk like you really annoy me! Get a grip!

Good luck with your new horse Nikki. She looks as if she will be very much loved! Which is much more important than a lick of paint! xx

Oh yes sorry, its so dark I couldn't see it originally.

I didn't mean this to be horrible to OP but I was so shocked,
IME no-one where I am would put their horses in there but we're not ' farmer' sorts so maybe just different standards. All the liveries I have come across are very fussy about horse accomodation.

[/ QUOTE ]

ooo arrgh (puses to take the piece of straw out my mouth and re-arrange my smock) Sorry couldn't resist. What on earth is going on in this forum lately is it the weather or is there a HRT shortage in the UK at the moment?

All I can say is that my horse is currently inhabiting a converted container and appears to be very happy and settled. We re-painted it white before he moved in and he has now added his own interior design of pooh streaks in an interesting assortment of pattens.

OP your new horse looks a really nice type and it will be interesting to see how you both progress and you are so lucky to have such a supportive OH and a RI that will sitck up for you
grin.gif
ignore ignore ignore!

LHS can you please post pictures and the location of your yard so it can noted it down as one to avoid as the accommodation may be 5 star but if your tact and diplomacy skills are anything to go by the atmosphere must be hell!
