Say hello to Harley (also known as Little Git, Little Sod, The Ginger Rat & various other names depending on the seriousness of his crime!

), our Irish Setter.

He is 18 weeks old & a bundle of mischief. He has absolutely tons of character & has pestered poor Sam (our Field Spaniel) to death. They are inseperable but more than once I have come downstairs & Sam has had a nervous twitch to his eye & the look of a harrassed single mother!
grin.gif

Since being with us he has wrecked the garden & thinks it is his right to sleep on the sofa. He is very fond of backchatting me when I tell him off & rather than Sam setting a good example to Harley, Sam has picked up Harley's bad habits & follows his lead. This has lead to helter skelter runs up & down the stairs at 3am in the morning, when they were caught their faces were 'oh, [****]! We're in trouble now!'

Digging up of the garden, including upending an entire flowerbox & it's contents. And more recently, pee'ing on the rug just for attention on Saturday!

I'll put a few pics up here for now & will add some proper ones once I've sorted them out properly on Photobucket
smile.gif

His first few hours with us & as you can see, Sam does not know what to make of him at all!

His very first evening with us;

Excuse the poor quality, took this pic with my camera phone & it came out rubbish but you get the general idea of how teeny tiny he was.

A more recent picture;

You can see how much he's grown when you compare his size to Sam!

And one from this morning;

Caught in the laundry pile which he knows is against the rules. Not that he gives a damn as you can tell from his expression
grin.gif

He has grown loads since then! I'll edit this post & add some more pics or put a post in the Gallery when thepics have finished loading to Photobucket & I've had chance to edit & re-size them
smile.gif

There are loads of them

I had heard that IS were totally crazy and obviously it is all true!! Loving the name. I wanted to call our rotty Harley but hubby wasn't keen (he would rather have the real thing but I won't let him)! So now we have a Dexter instead.
He is a very handsome boy. As, of course, is Sam.

They are crazy but no worse than Spaniels
smile.gif

I have to say, I wasn't keen on Harley at first but it has grown on me & I now really think it suits him
smile.gif

I think they are both very handsome but I am biased!

Harley will become a stud dog when he's old enough so we have the showing of him etc to look forward to as well. Love him to bits

Oh gorgeous, my favourite breed, have owned a number of them. they are not scatty, they just need plenty of exercise.
What's his breeding?

Jealous, jealous, jealous....me

He's from Brabrook Irish Setters. His dad is below;

Shushana.jpg
I can't remember his prefix without getting the papers but I know he is called Shushana.

And here is his mum, Brabrook Red Rose;

They're both Crufts champions & both hip scored etc so we are hoping Harley will follow in his dad's footsteps
smile.gif

He has a beautiful nature & is an all round lovely boy. His cheekiness makes him all the more special. The same as Sam really, their characters are fantastic
smile.gif

As for the scattiness... I would say they are no worse than Spaniels. They just have lots of fun & mischief in them. I love it!

We're walking him no more than 2 or 3 times a week at the moment as if they're walked too much too soon, their muscles & bones develop too fast & they end up looking like donkeys. The only reason he's going out for little walks now is to train him on the lead & socialise him while he's still young.

AAAAWWWWW! *falls in love* I am unutterably (is that even a word? hmm) jealous. Cuuuuute! As is Sam! Love the pic of Harley sleeping with his head in Sam's 'private area'

and toes inserted in face

Lol! We get stopped all the time when I take him out. If people knew the damage he causes they wouldn't think he was so cute then!
grin.gif

He does worse than sleep in Sam's 'area'. He is going through the stage where he thinks that because Sam is cleaning himself, Harley has to join in & help him.....
blush.gif

Sam then lays back & lets Harley carry on licking him....
crazy.gif

Not something we encourage so he gets pulled away & told a firm 'NO' when he does it!

Poor old Sam goes through it with Harley though, Harley does not think twice about standing on Sam's head if he wants to get something or laying completely on top of Sam. Or hanging himself from Sam's ears & boxing them, or biting his willy, ir chewing his tail & paws when he is asleep, or launching himself totally at Sam when Sam is in a deep sleep.

The antics they both get up to & individually are hilariously entertaining at times

He is absolutley gorgeous!!

I miss out old IS she was fab!!
laugh.gif
The cleverest and the naughtiest dog we have ever had but also the most affectionate and beautiful!! Where ever you go with an IS you get stopped by people as the are so stunning!!

Ours never thought the rules applied to her and always wanted to be a lap dog........

More piccies as he grows please!!

Thanks guys! Harley says he already knows he's the best but is blushing at the compliments anyway

Silkyunicorn, for some reason Harley also thinks he was made to be a lapdog. I am not sure that's going to turn out well when he gets to full grown dog size

grin.gif

He is getting more affectionate by the day. He is incredibly hardened & willful but he is absolutely the most gorgeous pup we've ever had (excluding Sam. Because Sam is one of those special dogs). Day by day he is developing his own little character.
smile.gif

Definitely more pics as he grows. I have some where he is curled up in the most ridiculous way in his basket. Will put them on tomorrow
smile.gif

LOL - you will have your hands full then
smile.gif

I must just say though, how responsible of you to take on a "pretty" dog, knowing full well what it involves and exactly how to do it - its so refreshing!

His parents are absolutely stunning and I can't wait for you to win Crufts just so that I can say I have a connection
wink.gif
smile.gif

He is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! My OH would be ever so ever so jealous!!! his old girl died 2 years ago... and he misses her so much, but we cant afford to get another one yet until I graduate and we get a bigger house (with a much bigger garden!
smile.gif
)

Ravenwood, he is worse than a toddler at times
grin.gif

Aww thanks
smile.gif
My mother has wanted one since she was a young girl but for some reason, the circumstances have not been right over the years until now
smile.gif

We did our research with the breed & made sure we knew what we were taking on but they are certainly not the sort of dog that can be left alone all day every day. They are so, so affectionate that I think they need to be in a family unit rather left to fend for themselves.
I don't know about Crufts but we shall see. If he doesn't get there I reckon it will be because his handler has let him down!

grin.gif

Lucy, thanks! If you do get one again I would highly recommend the lady we got Harley from. She makes sure the people taking on the puppies know what they are letting themselves in for & she encourages you to keep in touch in case you run in to any problems behaviour wise or anything like that. She also said to us that if we couldn't manage him for any reason not to sell him on but to take him back to her
smile.gif

They don't cost loads to keep but I agree the cost of buying them is a bit 'OUCH!'
