Meet Islay......(beware, there are a few pics!)

Well I went to the kennels today - and she is gorgeous

although the first thing I said was 'OMG she is fat

' - I HATE fat greyhounds, and she is a little on the large side

She is the most lovely personality, she came straight up to me and said hello, so we went for a quick walk down the lane - she was alert and interested but also very well behaved. We introduced her to Talisker and she wagged her tail at him

- he just did a cursory 'oh its another dog' sniff then ignored her (typical bloke....

)

Of course I wanted to take her away today, but she is booked in to be spayed tomorrow so I am picking her up next Wednesday

I spoke at length with the homing co-ordinator, who is very experienced with greyhounds, and she said that given the character Islay has she didn't think it would worry her to go back into kennels whilst I am at MK3DE so both Islay and Talisker are going to be booked in for a 4-day stay. If anything occurs between now and then which concerns me I guess they will both come with us on the lorry - it will be a tight squeeze

Can't wait until next Wednesday now

but luckily today they only brought her out for me to look at, so I was not tempted by any others

She is obviously dying for someone to love her, I had only been there 40 mins but when I left she was pulling towards me on the lead wanting to come too

She is lovely, glad it looks as if you are going to be able to sort out having her before MK. There was a lady with a lovely brindle greyhound at our vets this morning, my girl took quite a shine to him.

WOW, she's lovely. Love the white chest - that's a real tickling spot.

- Lottie, she has a white chest and white tips to her paws, but no white tip to her tail like I have always seen before. I think she will be one of those dogs who does the 'lying on her back with her paws in the air' thing while I tickle her tummy

bit off topic... but the collar she is wearing - is it a special one for greyhounds, whippets etc. A whippet at our dog training wears one and I wondered why a 'normal' one isn't used. Is there a reason? Do they have a very delicate neck? If it's a daft question let me know!

Not a daft question at all

- greyhounds and whippets usually have the wide collars like Islay is wearing for her "photo shoot".

These breeds do have quite long slender necks so it spreads any pressure better for them if they do pull on the lead - of course rescue greyhounds very rarely pull on the lead, they are very well trained, but there is always the time they see the neighbours cat across the road

And thank you for saying she is pretty, she will look better slimmer but she is so sweet
