This is Jess. I've taken on riding her (i'm not buying her) , she is very sweet and loving, has been a field ornament for the past year or so with the occasional hack out as she has not had a rider. Before then she was doing pony club/ 2ft9 courses etc. Before this she was a owned by a hunt secretary and hunted regullarly.

I'm just starting to bring her back into work and hope to possibly hunt this winter and goto some small shows.

So at the moment i'm riding her 4-5 times a week and will be schooling twice for 30mins, lunging once and hacking 1-2 times for 90mins.

I'd like any pointers on bringing her back into work, her current condition and any confirmation glarers (flat feet, long and a bit sway back being some!). Also feel free to guess the breed!! Nothing on the passport but we have a good idea

Shes 16.1hh

Agree she does look pregnant! But no.... its just a big belly from lack of work. She has been wormed (only last week mind you) so no worries there.

Well we think she is a Gelderlander! Maybe 1/4 ID but she has the head of a Gelderlander and as Peresphone said she does look like one!

She certainly looks like my lad ( below) he is a graded branded Gelderlander, but there is something not quite right, I think her back is too short and she does not have the slightly rangy look they have, her head carriage is not high enough either. If she is a graded she may have a breed brand. Cappy's is on his left side top of the thigh. However if she has some ID then that will explain all the above. Bet she has a lovely nature.

just got to be ID x IMO.

How old is she? she looks quite hollow in the back. In her teens?

Personally I would start her off a bit more slowly than your current plan. It seems quite a lot after a whole year out of work. I would go for 3 sessions a week in straight lines only ( ie Hacking) and then move it up a bit. I would want to get her tendons strong and hardened before I did any lungeing. I woulds also do basic schooling and suppling whilst out hacking. Keep that up for about three months taking it up to 5 -6 rides a week up to two hours eventually increasing pace to included trotting after about 3 weeks then later cantering, when she is hacking fit, get her schooling fit, thats more circle work and lunging.

Still we all do things differently, that's what I would do.

I think a lot depends on her age and overall fitness levels, if she is very "soft" all over, you need to go a bit slowly.
Not worth the hassle pulling something and her being out of action for weeks.

She's 13.

Oh and i should have said she has a high head carriage when ridden and is a very high stepping trot and canter with her front feet.

Storminateaccup- thanks for the advice! I understand what you are saying and i think i will take it slower she's got a lovely personality and won't say no so i need to make sure I don't over do it. More hacking me thinks!
