My little standard Shetland colt born last night at 9.10. I only had 1 full night of foal watch thanks to milk testing I knew he would be this weekend. He came very quick, not much notice from his mum, she seemed to be listening to something for about 5 mins, very alert, then waters went and he was out in about 10 mins. Just one question though, I have never bred a colt before only fillies. His testicles are down hanging like you would expect a stallion. Is this normal at birth, I always thought they didn't descend for several months - a year or so.


 
Ahhh he is adorable, what colour was dad, as he looks like he might carry the dilute gene and be a smokey black!!!!

It is not common for testicles to be descended, but it is not rare either. You might find that they disappear again for a while :-)
 
Dad is black. I thought he would have been darker too if he were going to be black. Mum is brown/black. She had 1 foal previously to a black sire and that foal was chestnut. Suppose i will have to wait and see.
 
It is the colour inside his ears that has thrown me!!! I can see he is going to be black, but don't understand why his ear colour is so different!!! Are all black shetlands born with creamy hair in their ears?
 
He is edible!!! Love him. In view of the boy bits 'suppose you are really going to name him the Full Monty. (smiley face - can't get them to work)
 
He is very very cute! And he is definitely black. The vast majority of colts are born with their testicles descended at birth. Glad the milk testing saved you nights of foal watch.

Oh my God he is adorable! That is the cutest foal ever! The dam has a lovely eye, as does foaly. Good luck with your mini man!
On testicles, as cruiseline said, they can be there but they can pop back up soon enough!
