I haven't been around on HHO for a while - been through some very tough horse times with my new girl, she was my dream horse, bought to ease the heartbreak of having to retire my lovely lad.

I spent 2 years trying to get her sound, but with no diagnosis and ran out of insurance. So many rollercoaster moments - but after 2 years when she suddenly went lame again I decided to turn her away. I was (and am) utterly heartbroken.

At the same time a little 5 year old chestnut section d mare arrived on the yard for a friend to sell. I took one look at her and thought wow. That was the weekend, the Tuesday my Annie broke, and by Thursday the whole yard engineered to get me to try Rose - the whole yard had fallen for this little mare. I watched her ridden, thought, no don't like the way she rides, got on her, didn't want to get off. Spent the weekend hacking her, jumping and she was just not my usual type, a bit hot, snorty but delightful. Just felt so happy on her - despite the snortiness!

In fact the week before, a friend had said "what you want is a little section d chestnut mare" and oops my response - the last horse I'd ever buy ...

By the Tuesday she was vetted and paid for! That was the end of March. She has been amazing. She is a joy in every way, and talented to boot - she is going to be a little dressage star. I quite literally bless the day Rose came into my life, I love her to bits. We've taken things very slowly with her - she gets worried by all new experiences (the evil of tail spray and hoof oil!) but she wants to trust and give her the time to work things out and she's she tries so hard for me. She's come so far - just a love. And the snortiness has gone.

My lovely Annie show cob is fat and happy retired, you can she isn't quite right, she really doesn't want to trot but she's field sound, and she's so happy to be reunited with George.

I want to post pictures but I cant get them onto here from my ipad - I've looked at threads, got a ipad photobucket app but cant get em onto HHO.

HELP! I want to share my little sweetie with you all :) :) :)

That's lovely. Hope you have many happy years with her, Welshies are brilliant.

I loved my welsh D so much she was my dream horse. Lost her nearly 4 weeks ago.

Oh my you can join my welsh chestnut mare clique.
Sounds very much like my Fi. She is amazing!!!
Can be sharp, very forward going and extremely sensitive. However she is also the most fun horse I have ever ever ridden. I never stop grinning when I'm with or riding her

Fi is also talented and doing well at novice dressage, but will go much higher. Has an amazing and careful jump.

I've had Fi just over a year now and she is my horse of a lifetime

Oh and I too said I would touch a chestnut mare or ever have another welsh cob lol

You do need to find a way to show us photos

I'm very pleased for you. You absolutely cant beat a section D Mare! Mines bay, not chestnut but she's my horse of a lifetime.
I wish you many happy years with Rose.

She sounds lovely and what a great way to find a new horse, the fact she is a D when you never thought you'd like one is even better.
I had to say goodbye to my girl 4 weeks ago and my heart isn't up for getting another one although, if one came on the yard that I fell for that would be amazing.

Thanks. I do think welsh Ds are very under rated. If you get a good one like you have they are really super horses. Hopefully I will find another one I like as much as I did her, one day. (I've got a C out of a D mother and she's a cracker too).

On the iPad app, click on the pic, when it's the only pic on the screen, there's a symbol top right that looks like a link of chain. Click on it, then click on the img code that comes up like a drop box. Then when you're writing your post, press after your writing before you submit and hold, it will say paste. Click the word paste, there will be a long code on the screen and when you submit your post, the picture will be embedded in the post. :)

I have a snorty sec D chestnut mare and she is my horse of a lifetime. I love every muddy hair of her, and, like you, I didn't go out to buy her, it just happened six wonderful years ago.

Here she is! Thanks cinnamon :0 Although she's got great breeding, she's not a show standard D, to me shes more like a sports pony but works for me! My mum also adores her. Unfortunately the only ridden pics are professional ones.

oh Glee she is gorgeous :) looks so so sweet

4 white sock just like my Fi.

Keep your eye on her hinds around and under the fetlock. Fi and a lot of Welshies gets little greasy bits which turns into nasty sores if I don't watch out. usually well hidden under the little feather she has. She now wears PE turnout boots and I was her legs in human anti itch shampoo (every couple of weeks, while its clear from scabs and every 4-5 days if they appear) it keeps it away and keeps her legs clean :)

you are going to have so so much fun with her:)

She's really nice.
Fate obviously stepped in and you were meant to find her.
We currently have 2 D's - both county show standard. My mare is the most wonderful loving, funny horse you can imagine. Whenever anyone rides her, they always get off with the biggest smile you can imagine as they never expected a welsh cob to ride like she does!
Here's to lots more fun on yours!

Wow - what a beauty OP. She sounds like a special horse, I'm so happy you've found another great mare :)

I wish my MANY, MANY happy years together!

P.S. My mare also finds tail spray - or any spray for that matter terrifying too! :P

She's bred by Cynheidrefawr Stud by Terackie Seren Serennu - beyond that I got a bit lost in the breeding! First time I've owned one with parentage on her passport!
