Well, I think I have finally figured out how to post pictures... apologies if they are huge or anything, re-sizing is probably beyond me.

Meet Frog everyone:

Please excuse the slightly scruffy growing-out clip. He's a 16.3hh, 19 year old Dutch Warmblood (yes, really - I'm aware that he doesn't altogether look like one). He's my first horse and I bought him about 3 weeks ago. It's only taken me 25 years to get that far. I've been lucky enough to get to know Frog well over the last year or so, so hopefully I'm going to be eased into this horse ownership lark.

He's a really lovely boy. I don't compete, so our aims are relatively small, just to enjoy our schooling and hacking. He hasn't done a lot of the latter for quite some time, so can be pretty spooky outside, although he's good in traffic. We're working on the whole hacking thing :D

I think in the distant past he was competed BD, BE and BSJA and got some points, although no idea how many.

CC is welome re condition and confo etc, I have my own thoughts, but will wait to see what everyone else thinks! Be as blunt as you wish - I have a thick skin.

Oh, and looking a bit more handsome last summer:

Congratulations! Six years today I got my first pony at the age of 41 having been away from horses since I was 18! And it's a great feeling when you can finally afford your own. I hope you have as many good times with Frog as I've had with mine, do you know how he got that name?!

Thanks everyone :D <---- what my face has looked like for the last few weeks.

He is indeed called Frog! We have no idea where it came from... although apparently he used to event under the name (ahem)....Kermit the Frog. Poor boy! His registered name is Jaraak, but I think Frog suits him better and would never change it.

Yup I have his papers. When I first got to know him I couldn't believe it either. I though he screamed ID. :)He does have a lot of Gelderlander types in his breeding though, so maybe it's their influence? I sometimes think he looks more like a carriage horse than a riding horse.

There is a Kermit the Frog on the BE records - right age, was registered but no results, though I know they used to only put in results if the horse was placed?

Results for KERMIT THE FROG

Sex GELDING
Foaled 1991
Sire WILHEMUS
Dam EVALINDA
Total Points 0
Total FP 0

Anyway he looks lovely and kind and obviously winters as well as my boy!

he looks a really nice sort. he probably did some frog like movements when he was young and the name has stuck??????????????? we have one registered ........... the frog as he was a git to break and frogged every where and frogged everyone off! he is now 9 and has grown out of this! and is now only known as ............. Enjoy!

Thanks very much RooRoo, that is indeed him. Looks like he didn't get very far in his BE career! He would have been registered with his last owner-but-one, so I don't really know anything about his comp record.

Dominobrown - nope he's been up north near me for the last eight years that I know of, does he have a doppleganger somewhere? :D

I am working hard to try and get his weight down, how bad do you all think it is?

Found his long lost brother then! It was also dutch warmblood and has exactly the same figure!

Maybe a little portly lol I more meant his shiney coat though

found Wilhelmus on allbreeds, i can see the shape now, hes like his dad. Theres some Hackney and gelderlander in there so that does make sense now. Not on lot on his dam though but she is down as DWB.

Izzwizz - in the past he had really, really poor feet and just didn't hold shoes. The farrier thought taking them off was the only answer (this was long before I knew him). They've recently started to look a bit better, horn quality has improved etc and he does pretty well unshod, just needs careful and regular trimming.

Surprised you think they are small, though. It must be the angle of the camera - they are real dinner plates, about 10" heel to toe! I looked into hoof boots for him and no one in the UK manufactures them in a big enough size!

Dominobrown - must be, his breeding is further up the page if you happen to know the breeding of the one you're thinking of!

Ahh, thanks - that was after 20 mins battling with a rubber curry comb to try and get rid of excess hair. No sign of the clip that was done in November growing out though!

Will need to have a bit more of a look into his breeding myself. Everyone says he's a weird shape for a WB :D

The older WBs do have more of the original horse shape if you like to them. Mine is german, hes 15 and closer to the selle francais bit of him unlike the new 2000 foals you see now who are more what you think the warmblood melting pot should be,, because of a few more years refining it

Re clip, my horse looks like 2 halves! clip isnt growing out at all, think its set in for the summer

Absolutely, he'd better turn out to be prince charming!

I think that's a good point, summerleft. He is 19 after all so sure the breed has continued to develop since then. We've got about six on our yard and none of them are particularly alike. Is that yours in the bottom right of your sig? Looks lovely.

Wonderfully big ears - my ancient old farrier (RIP) always used to say that was a mark of a good horse! Don't let him take the P out hacking too much - at his age he should no better!

Thanks Tamba and Dressedkez. He should definitely know better! It's mainly mild napping with the occasional real spook at something. Having known and ridden him for a while before buying, I know what he's like and have a few tricks up my sleeve ;)

He is super lovely! Old warmbloods are the best, I have had a BWP ex BSJA/BE since last Oct and it was his 19th B Day today. Who needs a youngster, oldies are much happier in their skin and can teach you so much.

More pics of him definitely needed :-)
