Buster.
A change from my normal mount. Going from just under 18hh to 15.1hh feels strange.
He's my daughters new boy. Bought very cheap, has been taught to pace and struggles to canter. Pacing was his normal gait and daughter was having issues getting him out of it so dad got roped in to do some schooling with him.
Trot work is now coming on well, canter is work in progress but improving each session.
He's overweight and unfit but just turned 6 so all will come in time. I might even do a few BD prelims with him before handing him back. Got to teach him to jump as well. Poor lad very lacking in basic education but super attitude.

some how looking at the bottom pick it might not be so temporary............................?
Oh it will be. Once he slims down I have a feeling he wont take up my leg so much.
I've only been working with him for 3 weeks. Initially he was dead to the leg, bend was non existent, sat on his outside shoulder constantly and pulled himself along with his forehand while the back paddles out somewhere in the next county.
I think he is going to have some cracking paces and does enjoy his work. There is a very fine line though between pushing him out of his comfort zone to develop him and him getting anxious and starting to pace.
My guess is another 3 months and I can hand the reins back.

Lovely looking lad, do I see you pinching him every now and again? :D Are you still riding the big lad? I've been MIA for a while so have missed any news from you.

I quite like him - lovely concentration on his face with no anxiety - love it! Looks like a bargain to me!
Hopefully he will prove to be so.

Can't see me pinching him once my work is done. I may need to do the occasional schooling session on him but that's about all. No, not riding the big lad anymore. After the regionals (2014) I did a couple of novice outings, gained 11 points and then handed back the ride to his owner. It was never going to be a long term thing. Really just using my experience to get him over the initial comp nerves, get him some basics and experience. He's a big powerful lad and can be a bit intimidating when he throws his toys out of the pram for a lot of people. Thankfully all that stopped after a few comps.
Still on the lookout for a replacement ride.

From this has he been in the cart? Any idea how he's bred? He does look rather chunky for an SB but we had a couple that were that sort of stamp.
Good luck with him, I'm gutted my dad's last standie was too small for me as she had a lovely trot and canter but my feet kept hitting her elbows :(
