Meet Taylah

*drums fingers inpatiently waiting for more pics* :D

+1

Wagtail, she is just gorgeous, what a sweet face. Wounds can never be forgotten, but sometime we find things that really can make them all better and I hope this little filly will give you back lots of horsey joy :)

Aw thank you. I will try to get some pictures when I bring her in later. I hate these short daylight hours. Roll on Spring!

She is lovely, Wagtail :) Congratulations!

My yearling gets a small feed of incredibly watery beet with a couple of handfuls of unmollassed chaff and a youngstock supplement. I use NAF Mare, Foal and Youngstock. (I also had him on Equivite Bodybuilder for three months to build condition as he was skinny and recovering from an injury, but he is now off this.)

Aside from this just hay and grass. I have found he prefers his feed to be really sloppy, and that he prefers a huge bucket to a normal feed bowl - seems to prefer plenty of room around his head to eat!

Bless her! She is a leggier version of my youngster :D

Is yours a similar colour? She looks like a racoon from the front!

Interesting observations. I may try that. She ate about a 1/4 of her feed this morning, so is starting to get the hang of it. I think I will have to make them much smaller. I am only giving her a scoop of Pure Feeds Easy and a handful of fast fibre, but I guess it's still too much.

Ok I got a couple without the rug but they are a bit blurred because the light was fading and she was moving about quite a bit! I did the string test and it says 15.3hh which is my perfect height! So we shall see.

oh what an unusual colour she is, she looks like a fluffy teddy in the first pic :-) I bet she will be stunning when her summer coat comes through, how exciting not only waiting for her to grow but also what colours she will turn as her coat changes. Have fun :-)

I tried the 'middle of knee to coronet band' one last night, whatever it is in inches is what she would be in hands. I think I have got that right, my boy came out at making 17hh!!! do you want to swap??? :-)

Blimey! He's a big boy. The yearling gelding here is already 16hh so I think he is going to be big too.

*grump grump* mine came out at 18.1/18.2hh! *sigh* (knee to coronet). I think shes lovely and would just feed according to condition, if shes underweight as opposed to just nicely lean I suppose theres a fair chance she could rocket up! Equally if shes already in good condition for a growing youngster it doesnt mean she won't grow more :). Theres 2 methods you could try to guestimate from - string test: measuring from fetlock to elbow then swing the same length up from elbow to see where wither should finish. Or knee to coronet measurement (pressing tape flat against the contours of leg). She looks gorgeous :)

Eta just looked at pics and she looks a healthy weight now. I'd be tempted to feed a balancer so she gets all of her vits/ mins without as much calories than a stud mix. I was very concerned about the health implications of letting my 2yo WB get overweight but wanted to make sure she was getting what she needed, and put her on pure feeds balancer on which she maintained a healthy weight and grew well still - one hand bigger less than 2 years on. I also love her colouring shes just beautiful :).

She looks absolutely gorgeous and if she doesn't mind my saying so, despite her high class breeding, a bit new foresty and all to the good! Beautiful colour too. She is a very similar age to my Curly gelding but much more elegant - he is as broad as he is long! :)

Thanks everyone! Yes I will get a video in a week or so once she has settled in more and I get her into the arena for a play.

She is lovely, she looks so immature I can't see her not growing a lot more. She looks more like a yearling - was she a late foal? She is my absolute favourite colour, have loads of fun together.

Yes, she was born in July. :)

Just out of curiosity, what colour were her sire and dam?

Her sire is buckskin tobiano and I believe her dam is brown.

She is beautiful Wagtail - no wonder you snapped her up :). Lovely colour, lovely sweet face and I'm another one who thinks she will make the height. Here's wishing you many happy years of fun with her.

I have had her a week now and I am so pleased. She comes to me to be brought in from the field leaving her buddies and haylage. She allows me to wrestle with the awkward gate and the electric fencing whilst standing patiently. She leads in and out in the wind without spooking. She allows horses to be led away from her without making a fuss. Ties up to have her feet picked out and groomed. I just hope she stays like this!

I found a cute picture of her when she was only a day old, wearing her Mum's tail like a wig!

awh, she is very adorable.
But why don't you just put a saddle on the one in the last photo (in your original post). That one looks a fair size!

Aww, she is adorable! Foal pictures are great to have :)

Thank you.

What an adorable pic of her as a foal.

Glad things are going well. I bet that she will grow more than you expect.

I do hope so. Just found out her Mum is actually 15.3hh not 16 hh (looked up her eventing records). But her Dad is definitely 16 hh. 15.3 would be just perfect. The string test (from elbow to ergot) says she will be 15.3. I don't like riding huge horses, but don't want to look silly on her. Her grand sire was 16.2 so there are some larger horses in her lines.

Thank you. She is coming out of herself n the field now and playing all day with the yearling whilst my (grown up) gelding snoozes.
