After losing my cara I was seriously thinking about staying dogless. I was totally miserable.
Then this little scrap came into my life on Monday...

and first time off the lead today

I am her 4th (and last) home in 3 weeks. In that time she has been bullied by great danes in the first home, an adult male dobe in the second. Neither realised that she was in season and that is why she was getting so much grief! the 3rd took posession at 8pm and put her in a kennel on her own on a farm which nobody lives on. she barked and howled all night, they did it again the second night and she did the same but by the morning she had chewed her way out. Her wee gums were all red and bruised. whilst on the loose she was mated by some random dog, picked up by police and put in the pound.

She is a bit thin and was terribly traumatised and exhausted. she is 9 months but physically looks like she is about 6 months.
She slept loads mon night and tuesday, i have just let her chill out. our house is very calm anyway so that has helped.
She has been incredibly good. she is really worried if a dog comes too close and will snap. It's just fear. I am waiting til this season is properly over before addressing the issue. If anyone has any suggestions of the best ways to sort it then i would appreciate the input.

WIthin an hour of picking her up she was at the vet getting the morning after jab and will get her spayed in a few months, once she is settled properly.

She is very sweet and really makes me smile, and the circumstances surrounding her coming to me were a bit strange, think it was supposed to happen.

:D I'm glad she has you smiling again and I'm sure her ladyship very much approves of a dog so in need of a loving home being the one to get you smiling. Shes lovely :)

:D:D sounds like a good match, she needed you and you needed her(although you didnt know it)....she looks lovely BTW, what is her name?

She's called Tess...the clue is in the title lol :D
I wouldn't have picked that for a name but she actually really suits her.
I think you are right, I have jsut been so miserable and she has given me a real lift.
A friend showed up today for some reiki and brought me a beautiful canvas of a pic she had taken ages ago of cara and I and i blubbed like a baby. still miss my girl. Tess is a real sweetie though.

Tess is beautiful and she is lucky to have found you and you her. She is not a replacement for Cara , how could you replace the irreplaceable but she will worm her way into your heart and find a place there. Cara would have approved you know that.:)

What a very lucky girl she is:) and she is beautiful too.
In regard to the snapping I would hazard a mix of not being socialised to being molested when in season by all those dogs and becoming rather pissed off by it and defensive. Give her time to settle with you and get her walking with some well behaved dogs but not necc direct contact on lead would do for now and gradually build up to off lead with others, but try not to let them smother her, try dogs that are not to fussed by sniffing her out for now so she can have some positive associations.

Tess is very beautiful and I'm sure will turn out to be a treasure and a great comfort, She's obviously a very lucky dog to have found you after such an awful start in life. I notice she has already found the sofa as well :) Look forward to some updates.

Thanks all (lol splash)
Maisie, not only has she found the couch, she has found the bed, i put a wee bed at the side of my bed and she looked at it and pinged up. And there she has stayed :D

Cayla, thanks for that. yeah that sounds sensible. I have a couple of dogs that will be good at that.

DG and viz, yeah, I know Cara would want a wee thing like Tess to have what she had. especially due to the horrible time she has had. you would all love her, sweet natured. a real wee people person.

Good advice, I would add that once she has settled in, a training class can be a good place to help with socialising - obviously, you need to check them out carefully and make sure the trainer is one who will be understanding, let you do as much or as little as you feel she can handle, and won't be putting her in a ring with all the dogs off-lead at once! We sometimes have dogs that need this sort of thing in class, we let them sit it out if the dog gets a bit overwhelmed, let them avoid off-lead, or pair them up with a suitable dog that will give them confidence, that kind of thing.:) I would go and watch the class without Tess first, and have a good chat with the trainer before you sign up.

Thanks, good advice. It might not be as bad as i thought. I was worried about her meeting my friends border collie as he is very ermm collie'ish. and thought he would be way too much. Anyway, When we came back our walk which we had gone on our own, friend also returned with her collie. Friends back door to stable had been left open and as the came in the front door, Tess ran through from the barn and her and the collie were having a play in the stable. Won't be letting her go for a walk with him yet as she is still in season for another few days. She is very defensive on the lead so that is the main thing to work on, that and walking nicely on the lead. she is improving now she has had walks off the lead.
I really can't fault this wee girl, she has just slotted in to our lives. she really hasn't put a paw wrong. well apart from swiping a sandwich from the table. I think it just levitated into her mouth. So pleased with her. I am so lucky. Thanks all for the nice comments. xx
