This week I picked up Poppy
smile.gif
She is a 4 year old, 15.3 hands, little and wee , but she still has a fair bit of filling out and muscling up to do!

She came from the raceyard where I work, did not think that I would ever be able to get my hands on her as she was so gritted and determined in her work and SO keen to please, and might have done well, but thankfully my boss accepted an offer for her after she did just the one race over hurdles.

She's had a nice all round education, knows all her stuff on the flat, ( we school our racehorses in the arena) has done gridwork, hacks out on busy roads, is used to going in to the town gallops and working/jumping with other horses. But she's not been hammered, she only did a couple of months training last year, and then had 4 months out in the field, and so far she's been back in work for 4 months.

She's fab fun to jump, seems very bold and scopey, and has a wonderfull canter, can collect on the spot or extend by just slightly adjusting your shoulders back/forwards. She has a real jump in her canter. With her flatwork she completly switches off and is very laidback, and just does as she is told

She is really pretty - and poppy is a pretty name.

Can't see her legs v well but the rest of her conformation looks grand.

Thank you, she is a sweety!
The only problem is that she needs everything pony sized so have had to do a fair bit of shopping for her- she has a pony bridle/headcollar/bit/ exercise boots etc! Cob size absolutely swamps her. My saddle will have to be made extra-narrow!!

Thanks Fiona/AM -Her limbs are spot on- fab big strong black feet as well

Kit- no, must not upset Woody, W has to have 200% concentration at all times from me, he is already very upset when I even as much as look at Poppy. I feel like such a traitor and very disloyal to him already!!

She's lovely. All these 4yo Mares (yours and BradfordQueens) makes my frankie seem very immature! She is still at the stage where shortening is verging on the impossible, and the sight of a fence reduces her to a charging (on the forhand) loony! I hope i can make some progress and post some pics to compare! Pop looks lovely!

Thanks everyone!

PatMcFat ( cool name!) your 4 y.o sounds like my 9.y.o who is only slightly beginning to get the hang of shortening himself!

some just seem to take an annoyingly long time to mature.

Awww I love the look of her! I have such a weakness for TBs, esp ex racers, and your lucky to get one thats done so little actual racing that isn't broken. More pics soon please and good luck!

Thanks all I think she will be really good fun. She's always been turned out every day. all day even when in training so she hasn't got to much adjusting to do.
Rosiefan- not a smidgen of white anywhere! I usually have a broadly white face and at least one white sock, as I like that, so a plain bay is v.unusual for me
