I've had this little guy 2 weeks now. Totally unplanned, saw him advertised as needing a new home and a couple days later picked him up. Previous owner got him as a rescue in August (her sign over document from police was included with his passport). He's a colt approximately 15 months old, nothing there to geld yet... hopefully will be by spring. He has such a sweet and gentle temperment, hopefully he doesn't get too boisterous as he gets older and more confident though! I think he's about 10.1-10.2hh now, string test puts him about 11.2hh but it was difficult to be accurate with him trying to eat the tape measure! I'm looking forward to his haircut growing out, but not looking forward to dealing with muddy feathers - I've bought some pig oil and sulphur, anyone got any tips on how best to apply it?

Hopefully the pictures work:

Rigsby has pig oil every morning, massaged well in. In the evening we massage Wonder Gel. Once a week he is washed in T Gel. He is also clipped every week though, which makes it all easier!

Because we use it so much, I don't have sulphur in the pig oil.

I have joined a Mallenders group on FB, it tells me to avoid biotin.

He is a cutie!
Be careful with the sulphur, do a small patch test in case it burns, especially on white hair/pink skin

That's a good point, thank you. Will probably have to introduce gradually anyway as he's a bit unsure with having things done to his feet, though tonight he picked up all four legs to have his hooves picked out without fuss :)

Very cute - what are your plans with him? x

No idea! I might get him pulling a cart when he's old enough, seeing as I don't think he'll be big enough for me to ride but will probably need some form of exercise! It would also be nice to be able to ride and lead with my horse, I'm just doing the basics of leading and being handled at the moment, and will start walking him out a bit to get him exploring confidently. I had a quick go with clicker training and he learns really quickly so might be nice to do a few tricks with him too. Previous owner taught him to do the flehmen lip curl on cue, which is pretty cute!

Red, check out Dr David Marlin...the biotin thing is a fallacy.

Pony is cute as a button, what will you do with him..?? X

Haha, I did wonder if it was true, hence stating my source as a FB group. Mine does actually have it, I use Formula 4 Feet as a clipping reinforcer!

When he's old enough it would be nice to get him driving, I started driving my horse in summer so I already know it's something I enjoy doing. I will probably be a a bit too big to ride him!! I could lose a few kg but he'll only be around 11-12hh, I know people often say ponies are capable of carrying adults but I think that's pushing it rather a lot! However, my sister in law is currently pregnant and my mum has suggested I might soon be a favourite auntie, perhaps he would make a nice little kids riding pony too :D
