Meeting lovely people out hacking

As others have said I was the pony mad girl, so I always stop & chat & let people stroke.

About 10 years ago I was at an event & the showjumping was running massively behind time. I couldn't be bothered to schlep back to the lorry so I jumped off & stood & waited outside the warm up. A lovely little girl (complete with spotless cream jodhpurs & a jacket embroidered with her riding school's name) came over with her family & politely asked if she could stroke my boy.
I agreed & we chatted for a while. She told me about her favourite pony at the riding school & how she was starting to jump etc.
Knowing my horse was as good as gold & used to children clambering all over him I asked if she wanted to put my hat on & have a sit in him. Her parents were fine with it.
I will never, ever forget the look on her face. I thought she was going to cry she was so happy! She sat on him for about 5 mins looking like the cat that had got every sort of cream.

Yes, I know the health & safety crew should've had a field day but it just seemed like the right thing to do.

I was at BS once & an Olympic event rider won the class. They gave their rosette to a little boy who was watching.

We took Jazz and Harley to the beach last year, and two wee girls came over just as we were untacking by the trailer. We introduced them to the boys and let them pat them - ponies were good as gold, and the girls (and their mum) were very chuffed, it was sweet.

Our 2 are both very gentle so if people want to come up to them when we're out I have no problems with it - as long as they do as they're told when I ask them not to run at the horses!

I used to share a wee NF. He wasn't the sharpest tool in the box bless him but would stand like a rock to be petted and I'd always make an effort if I saw anyone admiring him to invite them to come over and have a pat of his shoulder.
One time a little boy was talking to him and then suddenly disppeared to inspect his feet.
"Where are his wellies?"
Me: "Sorry?" Thinking I'd misheard.
"He has muddy feet. When I go out and its muddy mummy makes me put on wellies. You have wellies on. Why doesn't he have wellies too?"

He was adorable!!

Current share is a bit of a nutcase and our hacking here is mostly roadwork so I rarely venture out which is a shame as I really miss the varied long hacks I did with the NF but a series of meltdowns on the road have made me lose my nerve.

Anyway. The last time I tried we met some teenagers on scrambler bikes. she HATES motorbikes so we started airs above the ground and lots of snorting and bouncing. I was fully prepared for her to go as the kids came up but bless them, they both turned off their bikes and wheeled them past. I was so grateful to them.

Often stop and chat or Red gets patted when going round the village when hacking, got stopped outside the pub recently where there were some admirers who we chatted too for about 20 mins and they patted him and he adored it (loves attention), always happens on hacks to the pub and have even ended up with one american tourist on one of the horses which was fun!

Red loves cars that stop to chat or pass by too and will often investigate inside the car for possible sweeties at any opportunity (including any police cars, friend on the yard is a police lady and feeds him polos if she sees us)
