Bedding is included in my livery price and we have moved to Meggazorb......

I was late for work again today as I spent so long picking tiny bits of pooh out of my boys bed.............
It's like a compulsion........ I just can't stop raking it and then finding little scraps that I just have to pick up..........

Is there any hope for me!?!

No hope at all, you are doomed

You need a Fine Tyne fork.

I am on Aquamax and have no problem with tiny bits of poo like I hear other people do, mainly because of the fork but also because G does his poos in one pile now he only has a half bed.

Oh and also, instead of raking it, you need to be chucking the bed against the wall so that any poo falls to the bottom. It is much quicker than fishing through a bed, even when you consider the need to re-lay the bed.

I find if you sweep the whole bed back, then just sift it, throwing it against the wall. then all the poo falls to the bottom. Then when you pull it all back down very little poo is still in there

what's megazorb like?, it is quite powdery rather than wood chips like easibed or shaving? I have just tried bedmax and i don't think i like it, so just researching options and never heard of this one

I am quite fussy and like a clean looking thick bed

Megazorb is quite good but nowhere near as good as pellets like Aquamax.

I still use megazorb for my giant rabbit's toilet area, but won't ever use it for my very wet horse again. He is on Aquamax which is super absorbant.

As I said in a thread yesterday: those who are not used to the bedding and do not use it properly, usually end up proclaiming how rubbish it is and going back to their old bedding. Since teaching my husband how to use it properly, he has become a total convert.

You do have to take solid/squelchy wet out as well as the poos - you cannot deep litter it but because of it's expansive qualities, it goes further and lasts longer than shavings. I only use one bag a week and the bed stays nice. I don't think you can beat £4.85 a bag for something so absorbant either!

If you want a thick bed then you just put in more bags at the start! I will upload pics of George's bed... lovely, thick and fluffy.

Horses do not nest so all they require is something as dry and clean as possible to lie on, wee on and poo on. I, therefore, go for the cheapest and easiest bedding for my horse.

I do throw it up the wall but I always miss some tiny little flakes/nuggets............... They show up so much in the bed and I just have to pick it all up! I think I have OCD!!

I aslo have one of the forks with the thin prongs and that does help.

It's not like I don't have better things to do!!!

PilB megazorb doesnt work if you chuck it up. You need to leave it down and go through it picking the poo up and leaving the rest where it is. It forms a 'mat' on the base and should be used like semi deep litter and not like other sorts of bedding.

A shavings fork and a pair of gloves should be all you need until you come to dig out a wet patch every week or so. Dig out the squelchy bit and back fill with cleaner stuff.

I use a dustpan and brush to sift through the shavings ... yes I am very sad.

Thank God, thought I was the only one with the dust pan and brush, guilty!

I love megazorb except it moves and balls up in horses feet straight after picking them out. I too have never been so fussy about picking out bits of poos, as bedding prior to this one I couldn't see them! Have to hold myself back from picking every bit out. Keep telling myself the horse doesn't care how good his bed is and 2 seconds of him being in it it will be back in the same state!

Has anyone used shavings on the top as my supplier cant get anymore for 2 weeks? Sorry sneaking in on someone elses thread.

I semi-deep litter to form a base, works well.

Compared to how Farra's stable was when we was on shavings, megazorb is a godsend. She is on thick mats with a half bed.

I am not bothered about little bits of poo in the bed. I just scoop off all the major stuff, rake the top with the shavings fork lightly. Three times a week put in some more dry stuff on top of the wet patches.

Dig out the top layer of wet every other week and top up. I use 1 - 1 1/2 bags a week - more than most people, but this mare is 17 hands clyde and pees and poos more than two horses put together.

Mucking during the weeks is 5 mins and 10 at the weekends - far better than 20 mins plus and taking out nearly all the bed which was a wet brown mash. She is also nice and dry - only bedding that copes.

Using Megazorb and putting in hay bars have been the best things I have done this year.

Aha - found another one! My old YO laughed and laughed when she saw me using it ... then she was constantly borrowing mine until she got her own.

I dont know what I did for years before I realised the importance of a dustpan and brush ... it is great for getting all the dust out of the stable as well.

Last year when madam was on a full flax bed I used a rubber glvoe and a small bucket to pick up remaining tiny poos when putting the bed back. In my defence, my horse is grey and the tiny poos DO stick!

How much Megazorb did you use to start the bed off? Mine are on rubber mats and I want them in during the day, out at night.

I use Meggazorb with Bedmax as the banks on half of my 12x12 stable for a 14.2hh pony. I find this works very well, pony does not churn up the bed or disturb the poos so it's very easy to muckout. I just take the poos out daily and sweep off the dry to reveal the wet patches and take them out weekly. Tried this with my 15.3hh who is a fairly clean sort but it did not work, poos everywhere all mashed up and looked a mess. Have concluded that stable size does matter, smallish pony in largish stable=good, horse in normal stable =no good, needs a bigger space to walk around in!! Can't see me getting one though, wishful thinking.

Forgot to say mine have rubber mats and are out everyday 6.30 till 5.30. I put down 2 bags of Meggazorb with 1 bag of Bedmax as the banks to start offwith in the 14.2s box. I add half a bag of each about every 10 days. It has mixed a bit but still easy to do.

get a fork with prongs closer together.i have woody pet which is very similar to megazorb and i get all the little bits of pooh in my bed lol. it drives me nuts!!!
