Melanoma Laser Treatment advice needed

My lovely boy had a mild spasmodic colic last week and during the veterinary examination a rectal exam was done. The vet noticed a few small pea sized melanomas on my horses anus (horse is grey). During his rectal exam the skin was stretched and several more could be seen, vet advised that they are lasered off as soon as possible to prevent further problems. has anyone had this done to their horse with success as this kinda scares me a little ?
 
Not heard of lasering melanomas but of sarcoid . If you go on FB site Sarcoids ,Sarcoids, Sarcoids and scroll through you can see the results of lasering. I'll be following this thread because my boy has them too. He is also grey but he has gone white now. My other a Thorobred is also a grey but has kept some flecking in his coat , they are both 16 , he has not got any yet.

My mare has had several surgeries to remove melanomas - under tail and in parotid area and will be having more removed next year. My vet has not suggested/offered laser treatment so would be interested to hear how your boy gets on - good luck.
 
Have just been advised to have sarcoid on inside of back leg and a few small pea sized lumps removed by laser. Vet came today. To be honest I feel upset and worried. General anesthetic, healing time, so many things to think about.
 
My grey also has them. We are trialling the oncept vaccine first to see if we can get them to shrink/at least stop growing; however, that's because laser would result in quite a large surgical site. My husband is an equine vet who specialises in laser surgery for sarcoid and melanoma removal. It's usually done under standing sedation with epidural (so no GA) and whilst to human eyes looks scary (big circular wound), they generally heal really well and leave minimal scarring if done well. My daughters event horse has just had seven very small melanomas lasered from under his tail. The results have been fabulous. One larger melanoma at the base of his tail left a large area to heal and the wounds do tend to get a little bigger as the flesh dies away. The smaller wounds healed very quickly. Silver spray was applied to keep them clean. Antibiotics and Bute for 5 days post treatment. Standing sedation, he was in and out in a few hours. The advice given to me was to deal with them quickly.
