Melanomas on prepuce (just above penis!)

Had this in veterinary but no replies so trying in here.

Got a grey pony (of course) with lumps on his prepuce - the bit between his sheath and his penis. He has already had one melanoma taken off and vet is talking about either amputation or possible urethrostomy - i.e. make into a mare as my lovely vet put it.

Anyone had this done?

Cost? Outcome? Length of recovery?

Will know more after vet visit.

My horse has this too and every vet I've asked has told me to leave it alone unless it actually starts to be a problem for him (which it certainly isn't at the minute)

That's interesting, mine is looking at penile amputation and also the possibility of rerouting the urethra so he will stale like a mare - eek.

But that is worst case scenario, hoping it won't come to that.
