Ok - so realistically what's the chance of finding a genuine horse through there??!! I only live about 20 minutes away and was thinking about going to have a look as my mare is being vetted Friday - so fingers crossed I'll be horse hunting by the weekend! I'm not planning on actually buying anything - I have bought ponies out of there in the past which have been brilliant, but I know horses are a little more trickey!!??

Will be taking a friend with me to tie my hands down to stop me buying any wafes and strays - LOL

Its like any market - you can get really lucky and get a good one or you could end up with a nutter that tries to kill you.

Personally i think melton is one of the sales that seems to have a load of rubbish. Always a load of TB types that have the look of the devil!! This is one of the sales i have never braved to buy.

Most horses there will have problems, and the genuine looking ones may have underlying health issues which is why they were not sold privatley! The only horses i have known to be sent to market usually wouldnt be able to pass a vetting, be it their heart or some other problem.

A couple of years ago I saw some cracking hunters go through the ring at Melton, along with lots of the bottom end of the horse market.

Its like anywhere, completely down to luck as to what goes through.

Have bought two horses in the last few years through Melton Market one a nutter but got better with time she was very green and just needed some TLC to learn to trust humans. Sold her on after about 2 years. Second lovely mare can't be ridden but has made a very nice broodmare in foal to cremello for 2010
