Hi, has anyone ever gone to Melton Mowbray Horse Auctions?
They are having one this Sat starting at 12.00. Can I view the catalogue on line? or do I just show up. Also In order to sell at a horse auction does the buyer need to produce the horses passport in their registered name or can they still register the horse for sale as the holder of the passport but without registering themselves as the owner with the passport agency? Many Thanks

Oops sorry, I meant does the Seller have to have the horse passport in their name or can they register the horse for sale whilst being the holder of the passport without having registered the horse in their name with the passport agency?

thanks

Melton is ok, I have bought from them before. They do have a website with the terms and conditions on (google search melton mowbray market). There is no on line catalogue and it is not worth buying one when you get there as there are not many horses in the catalogue itself. Arrive by 11am if you want to have time to look at all of the horses, talk to owners etc. Or if selling get there earlier. Don't need to have the passport registered to the seller, my horse's still had the breeders name on.

I've been to Melton quite a bit, and bought a few horses from there. There is no catalogue online - I normally buy one when I get there, but as above has said, normally there are very few horses in the catalogue that correspond to what is in the ring - some don't turn up, and there are lots of extra lots added.

A lot of Essex dealers offload their rubbish there, as at Cambridge sales they are too well known - be careful what you bid on. Also keep an eye on what is going on behind the auctioneer, as a lot of dealers bid their horses up.

I went to most recent auction there!

It was full of complete and utter scum! It broke my heart and normally i never feel like buying everything there! But i really felt damn sorry for those horses but i would only of brought them out of pitty there was nothing nice there just full of stupid gypos and scum bags it made me really cross how many horses feet were awful horses with big cuts, lame and how the scum bags handled them.
