Has anybody been to these sales lately and if so what are they like nowadays?

I used to go years ago but not been for years now and was debating going tomorrow to "Just have a little look"

if you want to buy cheap tack then its ok, if you want to sell stay clear, by the time you have paid commision you don't end up with a lot

No, not looking at selling, just wondered what type of horses get put through nowadays.

Sounds like I am not the only one that wants to have "A little look" I have not been for years!

We normally go everytime its on just for a look! It has got some nice quliaty horses occassionally but mostly just lots of dealers selling poor quality ponies (by way of conformation etc) but havnt seen many RSPCA type cases there at all if ever. You can definatly pick up a bargain though and the tack sale is usually well stocked and stuff sells cheaply. Agree with holly and ivy though they do take a lot of commission on tack sales so remember to add that onto your reserve price :D

A cheap horsey way to pass a saturday morning!

I wouldn't go there if you are looking at buying a horse. Although I know a few horses which were bought there and have turned out to be fantastic horses, I also know a lot which turned out to be unrideable/unsound etc.

I live around melton and to be honest I don't touch the place. I'm sure you could probably pick up a few bargins, but really not my cup of tea, always to many neglected, or buted up to the eyeballs

If you know what you are looking for, it can be brilliant, I have bought ponies there for £200ish, backed them, schooled them and sold them (having passed full vettings etc) for anything up to £5000, and all within a few months. I haven't been there for about two years though, so things might have changed. There used to be a real mix of old, should be retired horses, unsound, doped up animals, and lovely RC/Competition types that owners had run out of patience trying to sell privately.

The tack sale was normally quite good, with some bargains to be had, and I used to pick up a lot of rugs there for £3. The only thing was the tack and horse auctions run at the same time, so you had to choose one or the other.

Thanks everybody, I decided that due to the fact I am a bit soft and wouldnt trust myself not to come home with something I felt sorry for I have kept away!

How good am I, hubby very impressed for once!!
