I don't think you look too fat for the horse - but judging from that last pic I do think your horse is too fat to be comfortable. Perhaps he needs a diet as well? Sorry but I had to say it

[/ QUOTE ]

When I took him on he was wearing a 54" girth now he's down to 46" girth, extremely well muscled, increadibly fit and I'm still working on getting his weight down. When the saddle fitter came out to refit the saddle from a wide gullet to a medium wide he said he doesn't need to lose any more weight as do many other people who see him in the flesh. I am offended by your comment as I work increadilby hard to make him the best that he can be which includes him being on a permanent diet. Can your horse hack 8 miles to a show, jump two clear rounds as well as take in the sights and sounds of his first ever show then do 8 miles home again? Does your horse have stomach muscles through fitness. He was getting before he went lame up to 16 miles exercise per day with one to two days off every ten days. The vet is happy with his weight too. Its just you and I that are not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
smirk.gif
And if he wasn't coping with his weight how come he's clearing the jumps with such a height?!

[/ QUOTE ]

is that whem he went lame?

He still looks better in that picture than when I took him on!!!! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of when I first got him to show you exactly how bad he looked but lets just say that the saddle sat on his pouches of fat on his shoulders no t on his back! That was down to his owners who knew nothing until I came along to re-educate them.

Personally I'd never use a weight tape to assess condition - I would condition score instead. Weight tapes are very useful, however, for monitoring changes in condition and for estimating weight for worming purposes etc.

I would say the horse in the photo looks about right but I suspect showing judges might want more condition on him!

10 stone, 13.2 MW, would you say I was too big?

And

Ponies013.jpg

That is an old pic, but my sister did do well, getting few a fair few rounds in PPC on a 10.3, and TBH she looks huge, but he did not struggle.

Honestly S! You are absolutely fine on him. Remember the FEI endurance horses have to carry 11stone 11 lbs for 100 miles in a day and most of these are lightweight arabs. For goodness sake, Dealer is up to plenty of weight - he is bred to carry Welsh farmers over the hills of Wales, so a small blonde lady pottering about on him is a easy-peesy! Stop worrying

why can't you either loose weight or get a bigger horse??

[/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely I agree with you I look too big for the pony! Does the pony look unhappy - no! That is the point I was trying to make! He loves to compete and would not do it if he didn't want to. He was my daughter's and because he's "dangerous" (bolts if he thinks he's made a mistake) he will be with us forever. Because of his problems I can't exactly ask someone else to ride him - heck it's taken three years to get him to the point where he trusts us this much, would you put someone else's kid on a pony like him?

I took advice before competing him from an accredited trainer. Her words "Well he's enjoying it but because he's so small and because of the way he jumps for God's sake make sure you don't go up his neck!" No issues with the weight.

Can I lose weight? I certainly hope so. I was heavier than that, I'm down a stone and I've another 3 to go before I can ride my little AA mare. She's a baby and I certainly won't be riding her till I'm down to 11 stone - and I won't be jumping her till I'm down to 10!

Get a bigger horse - I've got one thanks. My daughter's riding him at present. Well I've got two if you count the AA but as I've already said she just doesn't have the bone for my weight.

Well done for losing all that weight
grin.gif

BB2 Why are you so rude, you have your opinion, that's fine, but manners cost nothing
confused.gif

TBH it's the original poster that confuses me, you in no way at all look either "fat" or unsuitable for your horse. It really irritates me things like this, because someone who actually is bigger will look at the original post and feel really bad.
mad.gif

Native ponies on the whole are very strong, i think it's up to the individuals the rider/trainer/vet to be honest, in the real life circumstances to decide what to do with THEIR horses, and not the job of *annon user pissed off at work* to judge other peoples horsey lifestyle.

[ QUOTE ]
I agree with someone elses post - you may have been first if you weighed less.

[/ QUOTE ]
Because we'd have gone faster you mean? Err no - we were too fast, that's why I didn't want him to catch the horse in front

[ QUOTE ]
Please don't be offended, I was 16st 8lb at my heaviest and 14st 5lb when I started my ticker, I am now 9st 13lb and I can say that my riding is so much better now than when I was fat.
smirk.gif

[/ QUOTE ]
Please, smirk away. Is this the first time you've lost such a large amount of weight? Good luck with keeping it off - I lost dramatic amounts of weight just like you - when I was 21, when I was 26, when I was 31, when I was 39. Heck if you add it all up I've lost well over 20 stone. And now I'm trying to lose another five and am a fifth of the way there. Just hope my riding didn't get worse as the weight went on!

i am currently riding a 4 year old welsh d who is 14.1 and a bit and he has no probz carrying me i am bit concerned about jumping him but everyone o here ses i should be fine.and i weigh 13 and a half stone and mines quite similair to your boy!STOP PANICING! =]

True - but people put up pictures and everyone says "ooh you look great - your such an inspiration".

michelle i have to laugh, you take offence at someone saying your horse looked a little fat yet you say to JT please dont be offended with the comment you made regarding her coming 1st if she weighed less !!! im offended on JT's behalf!! just because you have lost 5/6 stone that doesnt give you the right to slate heavier people. my daughter has a 13.3hh welsh C who can be extremely naughty and ive had to get on and sort her out plenty of times and on occasion ive hacked her out and she can still P off across the field with me on board, and she can keep up with my other daughters 16hh IDxTB in all paces....me ? im another fat git ,13 stone and 5ft 5.

lol aren't we all!

I just think you seem very literate and have a good grasp of grammar and really don't need to resort to "FFS she's a big fat woman..." to make a valid point!
I didn't think JT looked like an enormous person!
If it's something you feel strongly about than I can understand why you replied the way you did, but i was just pointing out that some of those comments could be percieved as a bit rude

Who's says the horsey worlds not bitchy hey?! ..... Michelle 73 - be careful not to be to smug "You may have come first if you weighed less", you have done really well and look great but things can come back and bite you on the arse sometimes!!!

BB2 - I agree that the rider looked slightly underhorsed but no need to refer to her as a 'big fat woman' ..... How would you feel if someone referred to you as a (for example) spotty, ill mannered slapper?

"How would you feel if someone referred to you as a (for example) spotty, ill mannered slapper?"
I'd possibly think "my god have we met before or do you work for me?"!

Attempt to lighten the mood over - SM buggers off back to budget spreadsheet

You allow your staff to call you a spotty ill-mannered slapper?

Punish them - make them work out the budget using just a paper and pencil!

Well, I'm so fat that I should be left to starve in a darkened dungeon. Does that make you feel better BB2?

Oh, and this is me and my cob, laugh/sneer/make derogatory comments away!

BSHA070907cropped.jpg

BB2 - I admire your honesty but after vowing to keep out of this i would just point out its not always that black and white.
I used to be a dancer was 8 stone soaking wet and could eat any damn thing i liked. I looked great in jodphurs and was fine about my weight, my looks everything.
I was then diagnosed with severe Endometriosis. I have had more hormone treatments and operations then you can shake a stick at, at the age of 30 have been in a chemical induced state of menopause twice and haven't had a normal "cycle" in 6 years. As a result of all the homonal messing about I now weigh more than i ever have in my life, hate my figure, refuse to have my picture taken and eat next to nothing. I also weight a lot more than some on here that feel they are overweight.
In principle i agree with what you say and so often over-eating IS at the centre of weight issues - but sometimes its not quite that simple and suggesting that some genuine reasons are merely excuses is a little narrow minded.

I totally agree with you, of course there are some cases where people genuinely have a problem of some sort weather it be medical, depression etc, etc. which leads to them being over weight.

However - I do not believe this is the case for the majority of overweight people.

I don't have a problem with people being overweight - I just don't see why they have to ride little ponies and then get all defensive as if they are the "victim"
tongue.gif

QR Okayy.... Kerilli has repeatedly said that she meant larger riders on lightweight thoroughbreds going cross country at a high level. She's said that many times. Obviously it's not a problem for a larger rider to ride a weight-carrying horse. This again has been said a few times.
I don't think there's any need for people to be getting all defensive and paranoid when blatantly they're not riding itty bitty little TB's around miles of massive fences.

As i sadi on the previous post!!!

that really really isnt true AT ALL... if it was THAT easy to lose weight no one would be fat, over eating can be just as serious condition as under eating, people self sabotage(by stuffing their faces) as they feel they are worthless, as an anorexic starves themselves!

All sorts of head fu*kery goes on in the minds of over weight people so to say they could lose it if they really wanted to isnt stictly true. the same way a dying anorexic still wont eat!

Unless you have ever been seriously over weight, and I mean like 4 stone plus, its difficult to understand how anyone could/would let themselves get that fat but really and truely, its not that simple!

so is it the word Big, fat or woman that is so bad??
smirk.gif
Or just when all three are put together?

I totally do not think that it is necessary for a heavy person to ride a 13.3 pony.
