Nooooo not you, you look fine
A lady later on posted a pic of her on a small pony doing XC, thats who is being discussed.
Well maybe its just me then but if I needed to say that someone was too big ride their pony I could think of a much better way of putting it than the way BB2 did. I don't it was necessary to be so rude was my point.

Sure there are,but Yorkshire folk are known for being blunt and to the point.
Personaly I LOVE that, cant be bothered to spend an hour pussy footing around when what needs to be said can be over and done in 2 seconds.
Can see how this very honest and blunt aproach can be seen as rude but hey ho.
One of the first htings my OH said to me was "by GOD you look like sh*t" was very unwell at time so he was right
I'm a Yorkshire girl at heart, was just born 200 miles too far south
If the lady had posted pics of herself on a 16hh with plenty of bone dont think anyone would have said anything, a little pony on the other hand, will at some point have health problems form having to carry so much weight for so long.
Glad someone knows what I'm on about! What i said is rude in a way, but basically I was only pointing out the truth. If your fat your fat, if your thin your thin, and thats that!
Saying that I am a c**t is not pointing out the truth though, so is more rude I think, but then I just think that because I'm ignorant!
I don't think her being big on her pony is in dispute but wonder if she were toned but heavy whether she would be insulted like she was...
I wonder what weight would be ok for a 13hh pony?
BTW: my parents are Yorkshire born and bred.Bradford and Leeds. They wouldn't dream of being so rude to someone..ever. Now, my OH is Bolton born and bred and would probably blurt something rude out but then be mortified he'd upset someone
but it didn't even upset her!! Seems to be everyone else I have upset!
no matter if it is muscle or fat - 14 stone is 14 stone!! Like I said early, my OH is 14 stone because he is tall - but i wouldn't put him on a little pony!
What is the problem with people just having a horse that can easily carry their weight?? Then no one would get offended at all!
I was taught rule of thumb is a stone a hand for a fit horse/pony that has no health probs and is young.
Once you hit mid teens knock a stone off and lessen the work load, late teens onwards knock two stone off and cut back on the work again.
Maybe is the lady was a female body builder at the same weight she would have been told the same thing in a different way, maybe she would have got the same responce.
Fact remains she IS too big for that pony ATM and is asking an older pony to do too much with too much weight.

There is no problem...and you haven't upset me BTW. Just wasting time till my dinner is ready
BTW: what is an acceptable weight for a 13hh pony?..IMO..
Well it totally depends on the pony really doesn't it. 13hh is pretty small though so in my opinion 10 stone max, and thats for a chunky one. For a fine pony I'd say nearer 8 stone.
I'm 9 stone and personally would not ride any 13 hander.
The lady's pony who the whole debate is about is 13.3 though do he could handle a bit more I think.
ok so far ive kept out of this. but BB2 i think your a rude and arrogant woman who is part of the problem with the world today. There is blunt and then there is offensive.
Blunt is 'if you lost weight you the pony would be more capable of carrying you'.
Rude is 'your a fat woman'.
your comments and shear rudeness are part of the reasons there are so many kids around now with serious eating disorders. If you said 'your fat' to an impressionable teen then you may become the trigger for a serious life threatening eating disorder. Even to older women comments like that cause depression, overeating and then eating disorders.
And yes whilst i agree with you that the girl in question is big for the pony at the level she is doing, she is not too big to be hacking it out and your comments were bang out of order and extremely offensive.
Im not the slimest of girls but i ride a 14hh connemara, yes hes older, but no im not to big for him. Not everybody wants a horse and native ponies are generaly more capable of carrying the weight then some horses are. i was extremely offended by your posts and they were not even directed at me!
And your comments that its over eating thats the problem. no it isnt its eating the wrong stuff and in alot of cases there are actual medical reasons why people are overweight, my problem is PCOS. ive tried almost every diet going, ive been to the gym 6 nights a week for hours as well as riding and mucking out 7 days a week. ive exercised and dieted till i couldnt do it anylonger. i cant loose weight and due to abborant hormones my doctor says its unlikely i ever will be able to loose weight. 90% of PCOS sufferers are undiagnosed yet most of them will struggle with thier weight! and alot of them are depressed, sometimes suicidaly due to the rampant erratic hormones and comments like yours do not help.
Yes ive talked someone close to me out of committing suicide because of a comment like yours (from a stranger on the street). This is a problem close to my heart. grow a sense of tact woman before you realy hurt someone!
Blummin ek, I'm now responsible for a lot of stuff aren't I!!
I'm sorry that you have found my posts offensive, and I do understand that people can have problems that make weight loss very difficult. I don't have anything against heavier people - just so long as they don't ride little ponies!!
To be perfectly honest - if someone was suicidal from a comment like mine, then they already have quite serious issues. i have had personal experience of what i suppose you call an eating disorder, so don't assume that I'm just one of those people that has never had to think about their weight. When i was very thin though, if everyone had said - "ohh you look great" I would have carried on getting thinner and thinner. I think people telling me I looked a state did help me to snap out of it.
I really didn't mean to be rude about the girls weight. It just makes me very angry to see horses being taken advantage of. They have so much trust in us and it is our responsibility to make their lives as nice as possible.
i'm sorry that i care more about an animals welfare than someones feelings. At the end of the day - she has a choice to ride the pony and a choice to post pictures bragging about her second place rosette - her poor pony does not have a choice who rides him.
I think it's my pic not the OP's that caused the problem. We are talking about a late teen 13.3 Welsh Cob not a 4 year old. We've had him nearly five years now and he came to us instead of the meat man because he's dangerous, he bolts when he thinks he's made a mistake or that you are cross with him. He's been terribly beaten and abused in his past, which has probably caused his extreme reaction. We'd taken three years to get him over this behaviour but because of it there is no way that I could use or even carry a stick with him - he'd panic - so he could never be persuaded by force to jump anything he didn't want to. Even a hard kick or pulling him around would upset him. Tact has to be used.
He was my daughter's pony and she competed him successfully XC and SJ, but the combination of teenage nerves and panicky pony is obviously not good. So she now rides my bigger Welsh cob. This left us a problem. We can't sell the pony on - he could be dangerous, and he's too old and it's not fair to expect him to learn to trust a whole new set of people. We could shoot him but he's a wonderful pony, very loving even if quirky and he's fit and healthy and he's taught us so much. A further problem is that he can't be left on his own - being such a jumper he jumps out over 4' fences and has jumped over the railway crossing barriers to go and find his companion. I also don't like my daughter to hack out on her own - we are in a rural area and she has to hack along roads where the speed limit is NOT respected by the cars, so I prefer to go with her.
The final thing on this is that we are mostly all agreed that it's the amount of bone that counts? The chestnut is a stocky boy. It always made us laugh that he and the bigger cob share the sime size saddle, same size bridle, same size girth, same size rug. The only difference between them is the length of their legs! The bone measurement and you'll have to forgive me because I can't remember what it is is identical between them. So which can carry more? You may also remember that I said I now have a young AA mare that I can't ride and have never even sat on because I'm too heavy. She also shares saddle, bridle, girth and rug size with the boys but she has far less bone. That's why I don't ride her, why I'm trying to lose 4 stone so that I can at least have a go on her.
So yes, thank you, as pointed out I'm a big fat woman on a small cob. I satisfied myself that I am doing nothing unreasonable, given his weight carrying capabilites. I checked that with an accredited trainer who has taught me on the pony and she was happy that there was no problem. And at the end of the day he just would not jump if he were not comfortable with me on top.
And as an absolutely final word you will no doubt all be glad to hear that he is currently in retirement. Sadly this is a combination of things; last year he jumped me off - he went for a faster line than I was expecting and I damaged my back, so he had no rider and began to get unfit as I was off for a couple of months, then as I was recovering he was beaten up in the field and badly bitten on the neck by the bigger Welsh - they've been together for three years and there was no reason to expect it but it happened. Not only was he very badly shocked but despite loads of anti b's and treatment the wounds became badly infected and at one point we wondered if we were going to lose him as they tracked down towards his spine. He has made a full recovery but it took months and he has lost loads of muscle and is quite poor and there is no way that I would subject him to my weight in that unfit condition.
Now, when I've lost the weight I'm trying to lose . . . . . .
I'd like to think that this would clear the air but I don't suppose it will!
BB2 - yes you're blunt but that's one of the risks of putting a picture up - the "ooh aren't you wonderful" posts piss me off too!
You have slightly misunderstood my reasons - I'm very proud of the pony because he's come through so much and I'm so happy to see him out enjoying himself, it wasn't intended to be bragging about second place, it was meant as encouragement to someone who was feeling uncertain.
Please do believe me - that pony is not one you can take advantage of - he DOES choose who he will allow to ride him. The dozen people who responded to the for sale ad before me would tell you that - he had them all off! That's why he was off to the meat man if we didn't have him - his owners were desperate to get rid of their problem. That's why he will stay with us for always.

Whats that got to do with anything?? It's a 13.3 pony FFS and she's a big fat woman!!!

Naughty BB
Why are u riding such a small pony? its not as if there is a shortage of big horses in the world?
O and just for the record, my mare is 16hh and i will not let anyone heavier than me sit on her (not that i let many people on her) because she is getting older and i am not putting that pressure on her back/legs/joints!
Glad to here you don't sound as traumatised as some people have made out you would be!
i guess you know your oss, he sounds like a little devil!
I didn't mean to get personal, it's just I'm used to different things, but it sounds like you have given him a much better life than he was heading for!
Good luck with the diet so you can ride your little mare!
My old pony was 12.1hh and she carried my weight for hours....and yes i did say hours!! I could set off on a hack and get lost and 2 hrs later she would come home still rearing to go! I'm NOT light but i obviousy sat light on her as she had no problem what so ever...I have never been told by anyone that i looked to heavy for her
But tbh i think i do!! She would gallop in the woods...I jumped her 3'6ft upright and she was 16...
I know i'm holding on too much and unfrotunatly i don't have any photos of us jumping later on, and getting bigger
I look at some photos of me and Hemir (15.3hh!) and think i look too big on him but he can still jump 1.20m and have energy left to go again!!
If a pony/horse really wasn't happy with the wight he/she was carrying they would put their rider on the floor (and definatly wouldn't move forwards!) .... If a horse is not happy then they will tell you one way or another!! When people say that other people are fat and are too heavy for their/horse pony it always makes me worry and i'm allready self concious enough
I have no self-esteem and when people get started about their wight i feel like crawling into a corner and crying. I didn't read the whole post as i just couldn't face it...sorry if anything i have said is reapeated somewhere else
Sorry to be really blunt, but if the pony is as dangerous as you say, and only YOU could ride it would it have not been fairer to either retire him or have him PTS ? It's all lovely and fluffy saying he's a wonderful temperament, but you've already said he's stressy etc etc. For you it's wonderful, you get the sense of pride that you've 'rescued' him, but is it wonderful for him having to go xc with a too heavy rider? Is this how you expect him to repay you? In one breath you say he couldnt be retired because he jumps out, in the next he's retired
sorry, if I had a horse which was too dangerous to sell on, couldnt be retired because it wouldnt stay in the field, and I was too heavy to work it, I'd have it PTS for it's own welfare. But then you could have retired him before, yet you chose to work an older pony hard.
As I said, sorry to be blunt, but that's how it appears.
