member of the 'are we too fat for our horses' clique - views please?

Can I first start by saying - I do not think you are fat. However - you do look too big for the pony and on the bigger side for Hemir, although thats just probably my op and I'm sure he's fine.

Thing is, if you are so paranoid, then why buy a small breedy horse and then worry being too big?? There are plenty of quality horses around that are a bit bigger and have a bit more bone, and they are still fun!! I promise!

Not meaning to get at you at all, but I buy horses that I feel are comfortable to carry me, and therefore have no worries and no one could bother me by saying I'm too big!

I think H is lovely BTW!

Whats that got to do with anything?? It's a 13.3 pony FFS and she's a big fat woman!!!

Why can't she just get a horse that fits her?? I can't understand how people can do it!! I would feel I were to big for a 13.3 and I'm only 9 stone!! She should try carrying something very heavy round with her all the time!

I have to agree Michelle. It's all very well you being thrilled to post pics of yourself and the weight that you've lost, but that horse is very over weight, and as he's clearly been with you some time, you must have been the one who let him get that way

POT and KETTLE, springs to mind, before you go preaching to others about the way they manage their horses.

I've already said that he has lost weight since I had him!!!!!!!!! How many times do I have to say it, he has gone from wearing a 54" girth down to a 46" girth!!!!!! He was grotesquely overweight when I got him to the point that he had massive pouches of fat on his shoulders. You can all slag me off as much as you want but leave my horse and horsecare out of it. I do the very best that I can for him with the facilities that I have (bearing in mind that he doesn't belong to me and I have two ignorant owners to battle with every day) along with working three jobs to pay for him. So if you could have seen him when I took him on you too would agree that there is a dramatic improvement in him as does my saddle fitter and my vet!

Oh and the title "Slimflatwork" wasn't about him, it was about me! I'm on a mission to find his ribs!!! As we all know weight loss - human or horse takes time and if you'd seen him before you would know how much work its taken for me to get him where he is now.

Admittedly the 'C' word was a bit OTT and pretty rude - but my point is what you said was rude and uncalled for and could upset people. You never thought twice about what you said so why should I. You seem to understand harsh, blunt and to the point - so you got it. And since when has being from up north been an excuse for ignorance.

Sorry to bring this to the top again but havn't been on since page 4.

I really don't know what all the fuss is about...!!

I am proud to say I am 22 stone and ride my 14.2 section D for about 2 hours every day..
He loves it and comes trotting up to the fence every day for his carrots.
Last season I hunted him all day and was often complimented on how well he looked and his stamina.

Stop worrying about weight and enjoy those cakes and biccies in the tackroom at the end of a hard days hunting.. You have earned them !

I can't even imagine 22 stone; that's almost 3 of me and I wouldn't consider putting 3 of me of any of my 14.2hh's.

Here is some more pony squishing, he is a high withered, LW, narrow 13.2, and at the moment i'm about 9.5 stone, he is still sound, and I'll be riding him some more, but my weight is coming down, but I will always be wider than him.

Even though he is small he took my weight easily for just on the flat.

He looks lovely !
I'm thinking of dropping down to a 13.2 because its so hard trying to heave my huge bulk onto my 14.2. I'm sure that it would be easier for me if I had a 13.2 instead.

I think you must be winding people up, as a larger person I have a responsibility to ride a horse that is capable of carrying me without detrimental effect to it's health and well being.

At 22 stone you should be considering a VERY large and VERY fit horse to carry you, and even then I would say you need to be a VERY well balanced rider so as to not hurt the horse.

If you are winding people up, it's not BIG (no pun intended) and it's not clever, you are not a good role model. Being overweight is not something to be proud of if it's due to bad diet and lifestyle, I have a medical condition that affects my weight, but I do everything I can to help keep it the same atleast and try to get it down with ALOT of medication and hard work.

Dont fret my love.. I AM very large and very fit and my horse has no trouble carrying me... You really have a hang-up about your weight don't you... Don't take life so seriously !

Actually you couldn't be more wrong, I don't have a hang up about it, other people do. That's not to say that I'm happy about it, but mostly it is out of my control.

At the end of the day, if you think you're pony is capable of carrying you there is only your conscience to stop you... and of course the risk that someone might report you for cruelty... hey-ho....

oH DEAR !!!..
Did you REALLY believe my posts !!!
Just look at the guys who posted straight after me lovely !!..
That might just give you a clue.....

Just trying to lighten the mood hun.. hehe!!
